ParticipantMy washer no longer fills with water, but goes through the cycle, the drum spins as normal. prior to this it would not drain completely so I changed the pump, I think the hot and cold inlet valves are ok as I dont think they would both go together, also if you take them off you can push the valve in so its not stuck (although Im no expert) I thought it could have been the pressure switch, so I took the switch to my local supplier they think that this is ok and its something else, if I blow through it you can here it click and also the washer starts to drain, so I now think that its somthing else, could it be the PCB mines a DMPA 2 part number 546008401.
Many thanks for your help in advance. Please help !!

Possibly, but I would have thought the pressure switch for the same reasons to be honest.
Perhaps it’s time to ask an engineer to call and diagnose for you before spending out on spares that may not resolve the problem ?
Check repairs@ for one, if you are to continue yourself, please unplug :zap:

Thanks Dave,
I think your right, without being sure, I could be wasting more cash on the wrong part, although if the local supplier hadnt have said they thought the pressure switch was ok then I would have been almost sure this was the cause, I dont know if this makes a difference, but the filter was also quite blocked and there seemed to be a lot of scale build up so I cleaned it and put some calgon in the machine, after this the machine stopped filling. I checked all the pipes by blowing through them. still think it could be the pressure switch but as i’ve said before i’m no expert. once again thanks for your help, I think this forums great, I wouldnt have got as far with out the advice.June 11, 2005 at 10:29 pm #138139Dave_Conway

OK, check for blockages/sludge build up in the pressure chamber 😉
Don’t forget the :zap: though 😀

ParticipantI’d go for the pressure chamber as well, it seems the machine “thinks ” it’s full of water and then refuses to fil any more.

I did previously remove the whole unit that holds the filter and cleaned it through, I also removed a large piece of rubber pipe that goes/feeds to the under side of the drum and to the filter unit, also a smaller piece of pipe feeds from this to the pressure switch, I am guessing that the larger piece of rubber feeding into the underside of the drum is the pressure chamber.
I will check this again, can you confirm that I am checking in the right place please.
Also this may be a stupid question, but if I removed the small piece of rubber pipe from the pressure switch/chamber (as a test), should it start to draw in water, my thinking is that it would fool the pressure switch into thinking that the machine was empty.
thanks,

sounds like a good idea to me. How many wires on the pressure switch, some pressure switches have up to 3 separate switches built into the same unit, can you check that all the contacts in the switch are changing over, ie the normally closed contact breaks and the normally open contact makes ( one contact being the common )

PLEASE BOUBLE CHECK THAT THE POWER IF OFF BEFORE DOING ANY CHECKS. YOU MAY NEED TO REMOVE THE WIRES FROM THE PRESSURE SWITCH BEFORE DOING THESE CHECKS. IF YOU DO MAKE A NOTE OF WHERE THE WIRES GO OR TAKE PICTURES WITH A DIGITAL CAMERA.

Well here i am still no washer, Although I thought it could be the PCB I called in the a local repairer from the shop I bought my spares from.
He checked the Washer over and decided that it could be the pcb but advised that I get a new washer due to its age. I decided to order a PCB instead due to a shortage of cash and hoped the Washer would last a couple of months. wrong decision!! , I replaced the PCB this morning and guess what no water! Even though the shop think that the pressure switch is ok (it was checked off the Washer in the shop) could it still be this. can anyone advise what to check now, before I finally give up. I would have thought the repairer could have given be definate answer as to where the fault lies but they were not specific. any ideas would be greatfully received.
Thanks,dcfan

It’s impossible to give 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} diagnosis on these machines to be honest, quite often it’s a case of fit the module and try it, as engineers we have the priveledge of being able to remove it should it prove unsuccessful.
As you’ve gone this far, you may as well try the pressure switch to be honest, could you confirm the fulll model and serial numbers and I’ll check how much etc for you.
Dave.

Hi dave, this might also be relevant but we have been using the
washing mashine by manualy filling it with a pipe from the tap. I have noticed that he washer wont go into a fast spin. the machine goes all the way through the cycle. the washing has come out soaking. I havnt checked this since installing the new PCB. could this still be the Pressure switch.June 18, 2005 at 1:31 pm #138148Simon46
ParticipantRe: Electra 1100b wont fill with hot or cold water
This is pointing at the pressure switch. If the machine thinks it is full of water it will not spin. It will also not fill. The downside is also it will switch the heater on with no water in the drum possibly blowing element or setting fire to the clothes. Pressure switch contacts must be stuck in the closed position for some reason or welded together. is temperature set to 0?

I think the very first thing to do is check the wiring of the pressure switch as I note that you have removed it for testing. If you are very lucky, the terminal positions are printed on the wire ends, and embossed on the level switch.

I had set the temperature to 0 before, I am 99 {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} that the wiring is ok, as I noted the order they were in before removing them, Although I could have made a mistake so will check again. I know the Switch is embossed with numbers, not sure about the wires though.
will check.
