Electra 37523 does not start

I have an Electra Reverse Action Dryer (Model 37523) which tries to start (Motor hums when you press start button) but no action. If I manually help the drum to start it works fine, but every time I stop it I get the same start probs. Is there some start mecanism or is it all part of the motor?
