ParticipantHi,
I have an Electra Condenser Dryer (37527) made by Hotpoint/Creda.
The drum stopped turning but there was still heat. I turned off the dryer, emptied machine of clothes, checked filter (a bit of fluff but no more than ususal-seen it worse), emptied water tank and then tried again.
There is a noise, which I think may be the pump(?), but the drum is not turning. There is resistance from the drum when I try to turn it by hand. I have yet to get it out of it’s position to have a look with the lid off but from the above I do not think it is the belt at fault (but could be wrong!). I suspect it may be the drum motor. Is this feasible and if so can the brushes wear out and be replaced or am I looking at a new/replacement motor.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

First things first, this machine has no pump or motor brushes. 😉
If you remove the mains plug and take off the lid you can check the belt.
If that is intact then you will more than likely need one of THESE
Take off the left hand (looking from rear) side panel to access, screws down the back and one in the middle underneath.

Hi Iadom,
Thanks for the reply. I’ll get a look at it later this morning. It is making a motorised noise (to my ears anyway) so obviously I need to look inside to assertain exactly what the problem is.
I will be back!

Hi,
I’ve now had a chance to have a good look. The belt is fine and as tight as I think it should be, the tensioner seems to be OK. The noise I could hear before could have been the capacitor clicking?
I have removed the capacitor and notice that the end with the blade terminals on is at an angle to the body, in other words it is not fully in place, but cannot be pushed back into place either. Might have been like this from new.
Is there an easy way to check the capacitor? I have done a simple circuit test between the terminals but the needle does not move, but then again maybe that is to be expected as there was no power to it.
Thanks again,

Take my advice, just stick a new capacitor on it, yours has blown. 😉
