    Hello:

My mother-in-law gave me her old Electra Reverse Action condenser dryer which was sitting in her garage unused for about 4 years. When we started it up, the drum was stuck and started smoking. We have it a nudge and it started working/turning no problem!

She told me that it gets really hot and dries really well. (i’ve never used this type of dryer before so not sure what it compares too)?

Anyways, I have been using it and find that it is not drying the clothes very well. I can run it for 90 minutes and have only a few items in the dryer, but they still come out warm and damp. One time, i put some dry clothes in it to ‘fluff’ and they actually came out damp?!

The condenser itself seems to be holding water (is this normal???). I’ve cleaned it out to ensure its not blocked in any way. I’ve drained the container as well.

Having never used on of these dryers before, is this normal or do I need to get something replaced or repair.

    Thanks!

Is the water getting into the lower water container?

It may be gunged up at the back off the condenser compartment.

If you lie it on its back and remove the condenser you then need to feel right down into the back of the compartment and remove any damp fluff build up you find.

There is a small drain slot that you can feel with your fingers that should be clear.

The best way to clean the condenser is with a pressure hose.

Also make sure the filter in the door is cleaned after every use.

If it has not been used for some time then its possible the valves between the water container and the float chamber have stuck or become blocked.

Its a Creda/Hotpoint based machine BTW.
