ParticipantHi
I am having an issue with my built in Whirlpool electric oven. Model number AKZ446/WH.
Last week the oven element blew out, tripping the cooker fuse switch. I knew it was the element as the symptoms were all there – everything else worked, just no heat on the oven.
So I replaced the element this morning, simple enough. It had a decent size hole in it, so definitely gone.
I turned on the oven afterwards to test it, and it heated up fine. I turned off the oven to let it cool, but when I returned a bit later the whole oven was just dead, no power at all and the digital display was off. No fuses had been tripped, and the hob works fine. The hob and oven work off a single mains switch and are hard wired in (no separate plug).
Now the oven just will not come on at all and I do not know why. I read that when an element goes it can take other things with it, like the thermal limiter. I cannot see any loose or burnt out connections on the back.
Can anyone suggest what it might be before I go buy spare parts or getting someone out?
Thanks,

Pulling the oven in and out may have disturbed a loose mains terminal block connection if that connection wasn’t brilliant to start with that is?

Possibly, though I have never had an issue before with the power supply. but I would expect in that case it would not have have come on at all after fitting the element and putting the oven back. It worked for a good 20 mins initially, then just died.
There is a thermal limiter on the rear of the oven, and I read that this could have gone when the element blew. I don’t have a multimeter to test the connection, but I’m not sure whether a faulty limiter would cause the whole oven to not come on (including digital display)?
If that is a potential cause, then I can get a new one for £30 so would give it a go before turning to a professional.

The thermal limiter would just cut off the heat and not the entire oven.

Ok, so I guess it’s not that then. I did have a look at the mains connections, but could not see anything untoward.
I will try having another look at the connections, loosening off and retightening.

Have not been able to figure out what the issue is. I reconnected all the wires, tested for any loose or broken ones, and eventually even fitted a 13A plug and tried it in a different socket.
Still no sign of life.
I guess its a goner, or given I can get a new one for £165 it’s at least not worth repairing…
