    Hi,
Our Electrolux 1200I (Aqualux 1200) Washer/ Dryer stopped spinning completely, after some investigations I found the belt lying on the bottom of the machine it is complete but quite well damaged.

The Product No. for the machine is 914674010, Serial No. 33900051 and Type No. P6497375. The belt has 124021060 MEGADYNE EL 1196 J6 on it.
I am going to try and source a replacement locally as I need to try and get it working before the bank holiday weekend is finished.

However, I have 2 concerns as follows: –
    1. What is likely to have caused this? I note from the general advice that belt damage is rare these days, so I don’t want to just go and replace it for it to fail again. I can’t see any other damage as yet.

    2. From what I’ve seen so far getting in to replace it is going to be tricky, as the sides of the machine look fairly complete and there are 2 large springs holding the top section down. Is there any kind of instructions sheet for replacing the belt or can someone provide me with a rough guide please?

You need to check for play in the drum bearings as this can cause the drum pulley to wobble and throw off the belt. To do this you need to hold the outer drum and check for up and down movement of the inner drum. To change the belt you will need to remove the rear half of the cabinet. the screws holding this are at the top under the lid, at the back near the bottom, one at the back near the top and at each side near the bottom. The side ones are hidden behind plastic plugs and you need an 8mm 1/4″ drive socket to remove them.

    Thanks Phidom,
I’ve checked the bearings and they seem ok.

I’ve managed to get the rear half off now so have full access to replace it once I pick the new belt up tomorrow.

Can you just clarify for me please what the tensioning arrangements are? I’ can’t see a tensioning pulley or easily notice anyway of adjusting the motor position to tension the belt. Does it just go on with a bit of brute force & the position of motor & pulley control tention?

    Thanks

There is no means of tensioning but the belt is an elasticated type so will not stretch and fall off. Put it round the motor pulley first then wrap it as far as you can by hand onto the drum pulley. Now use your other hand to turn the drum pulley and the belt should jump into place.

    Thanks Phidom,
The new belt is now fitted and the machine is working well.
Just for anyone else’s reference who has to do this.
Zanussi’s new part number for the correct belt for this machine is 1108785005 this is for a 1195J6 belt with old part number of 1240211506. It is very difficult to fit but will go on eventually.
