Electrolux 1200i unbalance detection problem

The wash cycle completes, but leaves the clothes sodden. I consulted the troubleshooting guide and it looks as if the “electronic unbalance detection device has cut in because the laundry is not evenly distributed in the drum”.

I have tried running a spin cycle with nothing in the drum and it still doesn’t get up to speed (it attempts to, but just seems to trip out). The machine is draining with no problems.

Does it look as if I need new brushes/motor? A friend has had a look at the brushes, he does think they could do with replacing.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S. The machine is approximately 4 years old.

If the machine has been well used then it could well be due for a new set of brushes. Not a major expense, well worth trying first.

If you can give us the Pnr or Product number from the rating plate or the name of the motor manufacturer we should be able to identify the brushes you need.

Thank you very much for your reply – a new set of brushes is well worth a try by the sounds of it. I know that it is a Sole motor if that helps…I take it the plate would be located on the back of the appliance somewhere?

Usually inside the door or behind the flap to the pump filter.

I’ll have a look for the plate when I get home. I’ve ordered the brushes your recommended – fingers crossed that’ll sort it.

I’ve replaced the brushes on the motor and still have the same problem…does anybody have any other ideas as to what the problem could be?

Same sort of problem with a Zanussi ZJ1284 .. The drum starts to tumble, then spin, but doesnt pick-up speed then cuts out…. Does anyone have any idea where they have hidden the “Unbalance Detection Device” on this machine?

Like most, in the electronics. It cannot be disabled or gotten around.

It’s another one of those “compromise” things I keep telling people about. If you want high spin speeds (greater than 800rpm) and larger wash sizes, this is the compromise you have to make.

Does this part of the electronics go defective often .. The motor seems to want to work in both directions, but it does not want to attempt to produce a spin speed that is above about 250 rpm

These days they rarely fail in that manner. Back in the dim and distant past when they where a seperate item, like on Hoover washers of old, possibly.

The washer will try to sort and balance the load through a tumbling action then go into a spin, if it can’t balance it on that tumble they will normally attempt to ramp up but abort any spin as soon as the imbalance is detected. This can be anywhere between 55rpm and 800rpm that the abort will happen.

Some are more sensitive than others however, notably larger load capacity machines and high spin speed machines tend to have a harsher out of balance control (OOB) in order to protect the machine.

Spinning very small loads, especially single items just won’t happen in a modern washer and same with a machine that’s overloaded as the machine can’t sort the load correctly.

This one is not really getting that far… the machine is empty… does not really seam out of balance .. does tumble left and right, then collect a little speed but does not ramp-up to what I whould call a spin speed as such

Easy way to judge if it’s a fault or not…

If it doesn’t spin sometimes, it’s likely load balance that’s an issue for whatever reason.

If it never spins up, it’s likely a fault.
