KeymasterRe: Electrolux Aqualux 1200 Washer/Dryer
Many thanks to Martin and all respondents. I ordered the part as identified and managed to fit it.
The machine now works well and should hopefully give me a few more years of service.

Hi,
I have the same machine but a different problem and would appriciate some assistance.
Something seems to have gone wrong with the drum during a fast spin.
The drum no longer revolves and seems to have collapsed.
On removing the washing, what looks like a large circular spring (tightly coiled and very flexible) fell out.
Any idea what happened and is the machine repairable?
Thanks
David

If the drum has dropped, the circular spring will be one of the door gasket retainers – either the inlet duct for the dryer, or the band around the inner seal itself. One of the suspension springs has probably broken – you will have to split the casing in two to check for sure.
Power off, before sticking fingers in.

Thank you,
I have no technical knowledge of washing machines. Is this something I can repair myself?
To clarify, the object is a flexible and expandable coiled metal ring.

David, this is a particularly awkward beast to work on. To find out anything, you have to split the casing in two – even then access can best be described as awkward.
If you’re not sure how to proceed, use the Repairs@ link below to find a UKW engineer in your area. We generally charge less than manufacturers and we’re all signed up to a Charter regulating our business dealings.

Thank you,
I’ve taken your advice and contacted an engineer through the site. If it’s a costly job I may attempt something myself.
Thanks again

Unfortunately I’ve had no reponse to online request for engineers. I’ve tried three now and no-one has phoned.
Is there an engineer in the central birmingham area that can help with this repair?

I’ve opening the back casing and discovered the problem.
My earlier discription was wrong, the drum hasn’t dropped its titled upwards.
The drum has ripped itself free from the concrete collar at the front. From behind i could see the collar just resting on the casing shelf. The holes in the plastic outer casing of drum have been ripped open. There is nothing for the bolts of collar to attach to.
Is this repairable or will i need to buy a new machine.
getting the front casing off look quite difficult and even then I will need a new outer drum section, I think?

OK, I’ve done some research and have a more technical description:
The tub front shell has ripped itself from front counter weight.
I will need to replace the front shell. Now, I can order the part online, no problem. But will i be able to fit it myself?
please correct me if I’m wrong, but i will need to get access to front of machine and dismantle the drum in order to change the front shell. That seems a very big job?
It will cots me £500 to replace the machine?
What do you (the experts) think?

All access is from the rear. Tub must be removed in it’s entirety. Best approach is to lay the machine on its front. Hoses, wiring, motor, suspension legs and springs all have to be pulled off to release it. Make diagrams first!
Tub front is normally £30-£50 depending on the exact version – if you would post up the pnc number, I’ll be able to identify it for you. spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get it for you promptly.
