ParticipantSome time ago we ran into a problem with our Electrolux Aqualux EW1200i washer/dryer: we ran two two-hour dry cycles on a load of clothes but they were still coming out soaking wet. We consulted the manual and declogged the lint trap, the machine apparently took another couple of cycles to drain completely but began drying as normal after that. We had a repairman come out to look at it, he could’t find any other problems so we’ve not thought anything more of it. However, last night I was trying to dry a load and found that not only was most of it still soaking wet (after two cycles), the drum hadn’t drained properly and there was water in the bottom.
We opened the drain filter again and let the water run out. The lint trap itself was clean (we’ve been cleaning it regularly ever since the original incident) but when I looked into the drain itself it was filled with water, and I could see a lot of lint in the water. We’ve tried scooping out the water in the drain pipe but however much we scoop out, it never seems to make any difference to the water level. I’m currently running the machine on an empty drum to see if this will make a difference.
Would I be right in thinking that there’s probably a blockage in the drain itself? If so, what’s the best way to clean it out? Should I buy some kind of water pump or similar? I’m hesitant to call out another repairman because of the way our machine has been built into our flat (very little slack on the pipes so it’s difficult to pull out; once you do get it out its back feet dig into the floor when you try to put it back because it was installed and then had floor tiles set down around it), so any and all advice that will enable us to fix this from home will be much appreciated!

Drain hose crushed by the tight installation is always a good bet, as is the sink coupling clogging up where the drain hose joins in. If it’s hanging down all sorts of things from the sink can accumulate.
