ParticipantVisited the machine, not been used for 6 months, job description was “washing cold”. I asked when was the last time they used the dishwasher, the reply was 6 months ago.
I asked why did they wait so long, the reply was no-one want to touch the dishwasher and that I am the only one willing to touch it. It simply took them six months to find someone to look at their dishwasher.
To cut a long story short – no faults found on the dishwasher, however it was leaking from the top door seal. I thought it was the common Electrolux door switch holder being the culprit, turned out that was just fine. Me thinks it was the hinges being broken not holding the door tight against the seal (springs have gone). I thought about replacing door seal for good measure but I doubt it was the real culprit as door seal looks intact. The door itself was a little warped, but that was to do with the way it was installed, I put it right and it did lessen the leak. Any thoughts?
Anyway, how easy is it to replace door hinges? I have not attempted to do it, my experiences were with Bosch dishwasher which was bit of a hassle. Can it be done without removing the whole dishwasher out?

You have to pull the machine out, sides off, door springs off, and door off. Not difficult.
However, about two months ago I was asked to look at a Lux intergrated DW. Both springs and brakes were dead. Contstant dropping of the door due to no springs and heavy oak door, and the hinges were in a very poor state.(too bad to straighten out) I did warn the Landlord that it could be a risk repairing it. It all went back together ok and seemed to be fine. No leaks or obvious steam. However in the last few days tenants are saying steam is escaping from the top…. Been told if it’s not a faulty seal to remove the dish washer….. If it’s in a really bad state, it might be worth avoiding. Of course a Luxpert (Lux expert) might say differently. Mine was a case of tenants who didn’t care…… and left it far too long to get it sorted….

Thank you RocketMan,
I am rather reluctant to take on the repair work but I will do it as it’s work, I sent him a letter of quote and spelt out the implications of carrying out the repair that he may end up with the DW being worse. As it was 9 years old, I think he’s more likely to contact me to supply and fit new dw rather to carry out the repair.
After looking at the hinges on the spare parts website, it does look rather straightforward and with you confirming what’s the work is like, it did put my mind at ease.
This dw is owner occupier, retired couple with grandkids visiting during school holidays. They use the dw during the school holidays so they are not too overly bothered of the condition. I think it was originally used heavily when their children was at home 5 years ago now they all left and came back with grandchildren.
I know what you mean by tenants not taking care of the appliances, landlords can only do so much, they started off with high end appliances when they rented out and finishes off with low end new appliances few years later.
