Participanthello – I have a Electrolux dishwasher model number ESL6115 which popped my RCD on consumer unit. I have pulled it out and checked the ohms across the fuse and no problems there, I have then tested the power socket with a tester and all ok there too, next I used machine when connected to another power socket and it didnt pop the rcd until it started loading the water and then it popped again. So can I assume that it must be leaking somewhere onto electric wires hence the RCD POPPING ? I have done a bit of research and have found links to suggest wiring, pcb or heater are common issues – hope you can help ? Thanks in advance. Dean

Hello Dean
The most common cause of tripping is the heater which sometimes only shows up when it starts to heat.
Sometimes these leak where the top arm feed tube meets the tub (the mounting nut is loose or the end of the tube is split) and the leak runs down the outside of the tube and straight onto the heater.
Fully isolated while checking of course :zap:

Thanks for your swift response. I will investigate tomorrow evening. Is it best to strip down the machine on the RH side 1st and look for anything obvious around wiring and the heater ?? Not sure where to look for the top arm leaking ? especially where you say it meets the tub ? is it best to work back from the heater to see logically which tube is leaking ?
Hope this doesn’t sound daft ?
If it is a loose nut I assume that I can tighten it up or if a split tube where can I get a new tube from ?
Thanks

We can’t give detailed ‘how to’ instructions (see forum rules)not so much because we don’t know your electrical safety prowess but for anyone else reading an open forum…however i can say the top arm feed tube is a white plastic tube that runs up the outside back right of the tub and fits to a hole on the tub halfway up with a plastic nut on the inside to retain it.
If you take the top basket right out you will see the end of the tube and it’s retaining nut at the back.
If you follow that tube down to the wash pump you’ll see the tubular heater underneath* it.
*edit* On this model i think it’s actually attached to the heater tube…

ok I understand Clive, Many thanks. I am qualified pc engineer so understand all of the basics when it comes to working with electrics. But have enough to go on to take this one further thanks to your help. I will let you know how this one pans out or give you a shout if I need more clues, hopefully it will be something simple for a change – Thanks for your help thus far !

No problem, just be aware there are some sharp edges about when you start removing panels and access to the heater is a bit cramped.
The heater can be checked for earthing with a megger, and if the top arm feed tube is leaking as well then both parts can be obtained HERE
If the parts aren’t listed then wing them an email…

Hi Clive
Well I have taken both covers off and had a good look with an inspection light and it all looks bone dry. But it does seem to fail at the same point every time which is when it sounds like its pumping water and you can see water moving around in the plastic bottle on the left hand side, is it at this point that the heater would kick in ? and as you said in your 1st response that this is the most common fault? Can you advise where the heater is located as I cant see it and was expecting it to look like elements in a kettle type thing, and can you please send me a link for a new one. But if I can locate it and unplug it to isolate the heater would the cycle go further which would prove that the heater is tripping the RCD ? Thanks again, Dean

Further update and good news to boot. I found the heater and removed the power plug and hey presto the wash cycle now completes without tripping the RCD. Clive hats of to you ! you had it sussed in your 1st paragraph, you obviously know your stuff so many thanks, I will order a new heater ordered, are they very easy to replace as it does look very tight in there is anything likely to give me a belt in that area ?? and do you have a part number or can I go with t
his link I found ?

You need to check the diameter of the heater to be absolutely sure as there are two sizes commonly fitted but changing it is simply a case of undoing the clamps each end then reassembling with the new one.
Nothing in there stores a charge so unplugged there’s no electrical hazard…just watch out for those sharp edges.
