ParticipantHi,
I think I have a faulty stat on my built in fridge freezer but need some clarification first!
The compressor is running all the time unless I turn the stat off
The stat knob does not make a clicking noise as you turn it telling me it thinks its not reached temp.
The fridge is building up with ice and the food is very cold but not frozen
The freezer is very very cold, my youngest cannot soft scoop his ice cream!!
Door seals seem ok
Fault appeared after the last defrost I think, after I turned the stat off.Do you think I’m on the right track?
How much for a new one?
Whats the procedure for fitting the new stat, does the fridge have to come out? Thanks in advance!

Yes, almost certainly the thermostat.
Can you clarify the model number though as there’s not a thing for that model number coming up?
There’s a ER7831I but there are several versions of it depending on the PNC code, which you can get off the rating plate. There’s different stats depending on the PNC and serial number so both are needed to pinpoint the one you need.

Hi,
The product code is 925-694-601
Electrolux list a few different datecodes for this model, I cannot see a datecode but seem to remember it was around 2000-2001June 8, 2011 at 12:01 pm #353091Sproz

Hi Thanks for that,
How easy is the replacement?, does the fridge/freezer have to be removed from the kitchen cabinet?

i have changed one on an AEG freezer, (same company) yes the freezer has to come out from the housing unit and the capillary from the stat is outside the cabinet and goes through a small hole usually sealed with a blue tac type seal

Hi…Ok stat replaced yesterday but noticed a problem… The compressor has recently been running continuosly because of the broken stat with the fridge evap having a layer of frost on it, when I changed the stat yesterday I noticed the fridge was a little warm with no frost, today the milk is off etc and the comp is still running all the time. Freezer chilled down as quick as normal after the defrost and is fine this morning.
Its making all the usual gurgling sounds but i wonder if having the comp running for many weeks all the time with the broken stat has done something else???? I’m thinking it looks like its short of gas??? Can domestic fridges be re-gassed?
Help!!
Please!August 1, 2011 at 4:33 pm #353097washtronics

they can be regassed but usually they have lost gas for a reason so if it is regassed and only lasts a short time then it is time to replace the fridge

As the day has got on I’ve noticed a build up of ice up the bottom right hand side of the fridge, probably where the pipe goes up, but only condensation around the top part where i guess the evaporator is, checked the door seals and they seem fine but the fridge is still warm?
There’s lots of hot air coming off the condensor, which tells me its pulling heat out of somewhere!August 6, 2011 at 10:03 am #353099Sproz
ParticipantRe: Electrolux ER78311 stat problem?
this is strange… The top part of the back of the fridge is frosty but the fridge still feels a little warm, i would guess that the door seals have gone but I’ve checked all around and they are fine?
Any ideas??? -
