ParticipantMy dishwasher is 6 years old and the only problem I have had with it was last year when I had the door switch replaced successfully. I normally use the machine once daily using the Delay start button so that it starts on the “normal” programme around 1:45am, using economy 7 electricity. 5 days ago, sometime after 1:45am but before 2:30am the main RCD tripped. We reset the RCD and reset the dishwasher without the “Delay start” and the programme cycle worked fine.
(We have eliminated any other possible machines which could cause this problem). The following evening no problems but the problem has occurred again twice in the last three days, each time as outlined above. We have also used the same settings and have set the “normal” cycle twice during the day and it has worked fine.
Do you think I should contact a dish washing machine engineer or an electrician?July 17, 2014 at 4:08 pm #416840SAMURI

If you call an electrician and he traces the fault to the dishwasher he will tell you to call an appliance engineer, so if you think it is the dishwasher then call an appliance engineer.
If you call a engineer and there is no fault with the dishwasher then he will advise you call an electrician.
So if possible try to eliminate all appliances on the circuit to make sure it is the dishwasher tripping the mains.
Hope this helps

Thank you. Just thought somone may have had a similar problem with a dishwasher. We have eliminated all other appliances, unfortunately cannot make the dishwasher cause the problem during the daytime.

That is odd for sure. The only things I can think of are, 1) that overnight the voltage increases and any internal earth leak would be greater as a result. OR, 2) I you use a seperate plug-in delay timer switch that could be faulty?

Since June the RCD has tripped 6 times as above but now I have narrowed it down to definitely the dishwasher. It has started tripping when the Normal or Quick cycle gets to the draining before the end of the cycle. I have been able to reset it and finish the cycle but yesterday the dishwasher tripped the RCD each time I reset it and now unable to get it to drain. Any ideas?
