S-No 00264421This is ~6 years old and gets lots of use – two adults, two kids; plenty of family visits; kids parties etc.
And i’m a bad boy because I don’t put salt or rinse aid in. The manufactoruer’s recommended tablets (Finish) say they contain both.
What I get is the machine cleans everything but leaves some sort of fogginess on everything, including the inside of the machine. It’s definitely a coating becasue you can clean it off. Difficult to describe – it’s like i’ve put window polish on a window but not buffed it off. This happened last year:- I stripped the machine and inspected all the pipework, which turned up clear. There was nothing sticking in the pumps. The only thing left really was the box which the salt sits in. This did have gunge in. What I did was to remove this from the washer, clean out as best I could with pipe cleaners and a hose: it doesn’t come apart, so you do what you can. After reassembly it worked perfectly again. I don’t have a picture of it i’m afraid – should have taken one last year!
A year on and the same problem has happened. I know I can do the same thing again, but I have two questions…
1. Cleaning this box is a pain – if I could buy a replacement I could just swap in the new one and hopefully it would resovle this issue for more than a year (it was maybe 5 years before the problem first showed).
2. If I don’t replace the box, is there any better way of cleaning it? I tried various liquid cleaners last year and nothing but the pipe cleaners helped.
3. There was some sort of orange crystals/substance in this box which I think is part of the water softening? Could it be that this has become exhausted and/or ruined by by cleaning attempts and is the root cause of the issue?
