Called to machine with program selection fault. You turn the selector knob from the off position and the LED window remains unlit with no info shown. On occasions the back light (orange) will light, but no LED info shown.
Diagnosed as faulty control module. Fitted new module.
Cured fault for one wash.
Same symptoms as before. Sometimes tapping (all the way through to a damn good jab!) Will cure fault. Program selected shown perfectly. In this state the machine works perfectly.
Must be faulty wiring loom/terminal connection on module?
Tried ‘nipping up’ the terminals on the PCB. Made it even worse.
Anyone with experience of similar fault? Thoughts please…
Many thanks.

Doesn’t the new module assy come with an LCD unit on this model?

Yes, it does. I remember peeling the protective film off of the new module.

So both the old module and now the new both have faulty LCD’s?

Yes, now both the old module and the new module are suffering the same problem.
I have the old module here. Indetified by inspecting the plastic tabs which hold the wire terminals in place (One if them was ridiculously tight and duly damaged upon removal), so, I know I definately did fit the new module!
The module has a set of small yellow wires which link the LCD display to the main pcb. These are indeed a part of the new module and are already in place. I wouldn’t have touched them on the new module fitted.
I just find it strange that by tapping the front facia (inbetween the selection knob and LCD display) it suddenly decided to work, and when it did work – I eventually selected a spin – the machine started the program no fuss.
It reeks of some sort of loose connection in that area. Unless something else on the machine is corrupting the module and duly causing the fault.
So, sometimes turning the knob makes the LCD do absolutely nothing. Other times it will cause the LCD screen to backlight Orange, and very occassionally it will be fine, Backlit Orange with Black LCD writting…
Hmmm.

THIS!!!
Yes, indeed there was an Earth leak on drying element. Disconnecting instantly rectified the problem.
Thank you very much.
BTW – This customer NEVER uses the drying function. I guess this means the drying element never gets a chance to dry itself of condensation.
Cheers

just out of interest did the customer pay for the new module or did you have to stand the loss as unable to send it back for credit

Ooo! In the interests of both parties such information should not be available.

Glad could be of assistance….. guess you know how I found that one out…expensively. Even though they don’t use the drier, I think the drier elements and fan are initialised during spin, briefly, which is why the fault can be so intermittent and do almost a complete cycle without showing up. Whats more the earth leak will not show up when cold but insulation will quickly drop once hot.

I remember now having similar issues on zannussi drying elements = same thing!
Oh, and I stood the loss. Sigh.
