Keymasterafter some advice please, frost free fridge freezer & the freezer part will not get cold enough, the motor is running constantly but will not chill right down(does have twin motors), The model number on the data plate in freezer compartment is ER3201B its years old but i just want it to last a couple of months more then its going in the skip anyway, Main question is do the gasses “wear out” ? I have some mechnical ability so can do some checks(corgi registered engineer) any advice or pointers would be much appreciated

The most common fault for the freezer to stop working is that the door may have been left open slightly or that there is a fault with the defrost circuit on the freezer.
Empty the freezer out and switch the freezer off with the door open for 24 hours.
after 24 hrs switch back on normally and if it then works ok if it only lasts approx 1 week then the problem is in the defrost circuit which to be honest you will need an engineer visit.
hope this helps

If the kids have left the door open then you have no other choice but to turn the freezer off and open the freezer door for 24 hours this will allow the appliance to totally clear itself.

cheers for the info so far, have tried that but dont want to load it back up again if its still not working correctly, can you give me some pointers as to how the defrost circuit works, or at least someway of seeing if it is working correctly, turned back on again & running & seems to be dropping colder than it was previously, any help or advise would be great.
Cheers

The defrost cycle will operate about every 12 to 16 hours when the compressor and fan will switch off and the defrost element will switch on. The element will cope with the thin layer of frost which has built up over the previous 12 hours. If the door has been left open then the appliance would probably have run continuosly with lots of warm moist air entering and freezing on the evaporator. The element would not be able to cope with this. When the defrost cycle is finished (20 to 30minutes) the evaporaor would still be blocked with ice therefore resticting the airflow from the fan around the freezer and possibly the fridge. The appliance will then continue to run continuosly trying to get cold and make the ice build up even worse. Take the previous advice and defrost for at least 24 hours and everything should be back to normal. 🙂

Thanks for the info, just what i wanted, seems ok now & i thank everyone for their help, just wanted to know what i was looking for & how to prove or disprove if it was a temporary fault or it was skip time, if anyone wants to know how to fix their own central heating boiler would be happy to offer any advice 😉

KeymasterRe: Electrolux Fridge freezer
looks like whoever mentioned the defrost circuit only lasting about a week was right!! seems to have shutdown completely now, i know the previous answer was to call an engineer, but any technical info on how the defrost circuit works & obviously as it cant be dealt with specifically a general overview would be much appreciated. 🙁
