    Please help

My Fiance and I purchased two Electrolux products, a matching fridge and Freezer and also a Zanussi Washing Machine approx 2 years ago

Just over two weeks ago the fridge stopped working, the light is still on but theres no noise from the compressor. I have written to Electrolux who have promptly written back to me with the offer of payning ‘part cost of a high part bill’ excluding call out charge and the amount paid by electrolux will be at their descretion.

I do not wish to take them up on this offer as the call out alone is £46.50+VAT. I have been told that it cold be the thermostat. If I was to purchase this part, how easy is it to fit it and would the fridge need regassing. Any advice either how to tackle Electrolux or on repairing the fridge would be appreciated.

    regards

    Paul

Sit next to fridge for 5 minutes with peace and quiet. Listen for any clicking sounds i.e. 2 within 30 seconds or 1 click within five minutes.

Re: Electrolux Fridge ONLY 2 YEARS OLD

I have the exact same problem with my Electrolux Zanussi ZX77.
The Fridge and Freezer do not get cold and the temp warning light/alarm goes off after a couple of hours. The fan is circulating air inside.
    The compressor is cold.

I hear the clicking noise – 2 in the space of 10 seconds. So what does this mean?

Is the problem compressor or thermostat?

    Many thanks.

Most likely the second click is the overload on the side of the compressor removing power as it is failing to start. I would suspect compressor on this one.

    Thanks for the info Simon.
I am considering having the fridge/freezer repaired as opposed to buying a new one. Know any decent repair companies in the Middlesex area?

Re: Electrolux Fridge ONLY 2 YEARS OLD

I should have mentioned that I tried repairs@ and it tells me there is nobody in the area. To be more specific, the area is Harrow.
I have managed to contact a certain company who charge £65+vat+parts.
They think the problem is compressor which means a new one + re-gassing? Approx £300 all in. Problem is, they cannot come until end of next week. Not worried about the food but the beer……………..

I am hoping the problem is thermostat or something cheap to replace on the Zanussi ZX77/ZX79 or I have just lost £65+vat in beer money…….
    Thanks dave.

    Zanussi ZX79/5SI

Interesting… the compressor runs for approx 5 seconds then a click is heard and all is quiet. Repeats this process quite often.
    Any engineers recognise this?

    For info: Zanussi ZX79/5SI
    S/N 11500067
    Product: 928405916

Great site, makes an interesting read. Some of the engineers who post really know their stuff…… 😆

Yes, the compressor is failing or the start device could be faulty, probably the former though 🙁

To check for sure, check Repairs@ for an engineers diagnosis 🙂

Re: Electrolux Fridge ONLY 2 YEARS OLD

    Correct diagnosis Dave.
Compressor, PCB, Re-gas and sundries worth an estimated £351.44 is required to heal the patient. Not forgetting the call out charge and labour…………OUCH…….and only 3 months warranty…OUCH,OUCH,OUCH……Time for a new one I think…

Any suggestions on a replacement? or where to look?
Wife is thinking American and going for a Samsung – is this wise?

Hopefully my last post. This forum has been really helpful and informative. Search engines find it easily. Good place to advertise in you are in the whitegoods arena……
