I have been getting badgered to have a look at the above machine, the bearings need replacing and I was just wondering if any of you work on these machines. What sort of job are they to do, do they have any little suprises in store? I have had a quick look and it looks fairly straight forward.

Am I right in thinking it is remove the pulley, then unbolt the red hub, slide off and remove bearings from the hub or does it involve removing the rear of the drum as well?

I have to give them a price for the labour and just need to know if I am going to be there all day or just a couple of hours.

edit: full machine details are Type W124 986210350
    serial no. 8810/056200

    Cheers

as with any machine you will have to strip it to find the full problems

never stripped one but from picture if drum shaft is ok then bearings and seal should be in hub

pulley will need a puller from photo looks like a special tool bolts through holes in pulley and pushes shaft off might get it off with a three legged puller but if you pull too hard the pulley will break

if i were you i would strip machine before you order parts and quote a price for doing so even if machine cant be fixed

ps you could ring wascator and ask them a call out and a price if bearings had gone as a guide

i have done one before. it was ages ago. if i remember right it was a set of zanussi washcraft bearings. the only real problem i had was that the old bearings were rusted to the shaft and was one hell of a job to get it off. in the end it all worked out though.
it also had old type aeg motor on.
