Keymasteri have a question i would like to throw out… i bought a new smeg suk91 four years ago, and whilst i won’t go into the rust problems, the knobs that ping off, the erratic ignition, letraset lettering and overall generally shoddy bit of kit for the cash, i just wondered if anyone else had the same prob of needing a new set of elements every year?
also, if this is unusual, can anyone suggest what may be making the things go bang (literally, when they go they trip out the house electrical system) so often?
thanks
p.s. i make no apologies to smeg for having nothing good to say about their cookers, next time i’m off to currys to buy something for half the price.

Smeg have recently issued a new part-numbered element for use in the SUK91 (don’t have it to hand). They had some problems with the previous element used (part number 806890397) and have acknowledged this.
Hopefully if you have one of the new issue elements installed it should last a bit longer and postpone having to buy a new appliance.Craig

KeymasterRe: elements and the pain in the @ss smeg suk91
I’ve just lost what must be my 6th fan element in 4 years on my SUK90MFX.
I decided to use the power of the internet to find out if this is a common problem and I am relieved (in a bizarre kind of problem shared is a problem halved way) to see that many other people suffer the same thing.
Is there any benefit to using genuine SMEG parts? They don’t seem to last any longer. Also, what is the part number for the fan element for a SUK91MFX in the shop?
Having said that, a friend who bought exactly the same oven at exactly the same time has never had an element blow.
