    I have a 1200 wide Elica extractor. Mod. 292XS
it has recently started to become a bit noisy, especially on start up. It tended to ease off after running for a while. As it is a fairly old appliance, I suspected a build up of grease was slowing the motor. It has now stopped and when it is switched on, it sounds like the motor is staining to start.
I stripped off the covers on each side of the motor and was surprised to find the fan spinning quite freely. I noticed when the power was on, the motor turned a tiny bit but sounded very strained and as if it was about to burn out at any moment.
My question is, do the experts here think it is likely to need a replacement motor (if available) or possibly just a control unit?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Try a capacitor first would be my suggestion but, that’s not an Elica model number so I can’t lookout up for you.

Thanks for the reply. That’s the number on the label on the inside of the extractor, it reads Elica
    Model. 292XS
Would the capacitor be specific to that model or are they a fairly universal item?

capacitors are fairly universal but you need to know the value and it has to be the same mounting as the original

I don’t know what that number is but an explanation of what to look for is here:
