Elica Tropic IX/A/90 Cooker hood stopped working

Hi,

I am trying to help someone who has a Elica Tropic IX/A/90 Cooker Hood

Apparently it just stopped working with no function of the control buttons and built in downlight not working.

I examined the fused spur, fuse was intact, 230VAC getting to the white multi pin connector (from memory, it has 5 wires but 6 poles on connector). When I disconnected this connector and turned fused spur back on, display panel lit up, downlight work and fan control can cycle through 0,1,2,3 on the display. Obviously the fan didn’t work as was disconnected.

If I reconnect the multi plug to the fan and switch power back on, again display doesn’t work or downlight.

I examined the control PCB and no obvious signs of damage and looks fairly simple device with some relays presumably to switch power to the blower motor for each different fan speed.

Could anyone help me with fault diagnosis? I have test equipment and know how to work safely, I come from a smartphone background.

The unit is about 5 years old, my guess is that the motor has gone but could it be the capacitor or control board? Anyway to check?

bit of a loss

you say you remove the connector and then light and panel comes on

if your removing the connector off the board it cant work. unless i am missing something

if motor had gone i would expect it to hum and not start or be dead but lights would still go on and off via the switch

its no worse than the lamps in your house. if one lamp fails the rest still work ok

thanks for taking the time to reply.

The control module has several plugs going into it, I only unplugged the connector that goes to the motor. Once I unplug the motor connector, I need to power cycle the fused spur and then the control panel comes back to life, the buttons operate the lights and the LED display for fan speed also works and can move between 0,1,2,3 but obv motor doesn’t move as it’s disconnected.

im guessing it is a current supply problem but don’t have a schematic to see how it works….

does sound odd

cant see why plugging in the motor would do this. its not adding load to the board power supply as its a 240v motor

have you had a carful look at the board tracks and joint for faults

have you check for a definate supply to the board with the motor connected ? both live and neutral
