ParticipantHi,
I have an emergency with my washing machine.
Its been a bit smelly in the past, but tried Affresh as recommended on this site, which definitely helped a bit.
Now we have a new problem.
My son has severe diarrhoea and frequently soils his clothing. I shower the clothes down before washing them, and wash them on 60degrees with a prewash and extra rinse. However, all my (other) clothes are coming out of the wash stinking of poo, and however many times i’ve tried- with maintenance washes, I can’t get rid of the smell.I’ve ordered a pack of 12 Affresh tablets, and will probably use all at once when they arrive.
But would appreciate any advice as I cant stand the stinky washing!!November 13, 2020 at 12:10 am #473121electrofix
Moderatorhave you tried bleach products such as napisan or vanish
also soaking before washing in these products
in care homes they use sluice machines in these circumstances. these machines drain all the water out of the machine to make sure it refills with clean. in youre case there is always an amount of water in the pump which can harbour germs which is why you have to kill them before the washing enters the drum.
also select deepor extra rinse to make sure its dilutednot sure which detergent your using but make sure is a quality known brand

ParticipantHi Electrofix, thanks for your response.
Greatly appreciated!I have soaked all the stinky items before washing. It just seems the actual machine has gone smelly and I can’t get rid of it so the next load of washing smells as well…
I use Ariel Powder so I don’t think thats a problem.
Where would I use the bleach products?November 13, 2020 at 9:53 am #473123electrofix
Moderatoryou can add vanish to the wash
Ariel whites power contains a bleach as well so i hoped thet might helpyou could try soaking, a long shot i know, with no clothes in put the machine on a hot wash with detergent in, put on hottest wash and wait till it gets hot. Then pause it and let it sit there for an hour or so then unpause and let it finish. my hope is it will give the mache more time to kill off and break stuff down
even for us these sort of problems are hit and miss to find things that work
also when you soak before the wash are you adding a detergent or napisan type product to the bucket ?

ParticipantI would give the machine a good clean out, if you search online there’s plenty of ways, white vinegar and baking soda from memory,, also check your filter is clean,, a 90degree wash with some bleach should move a lot of the rubbish that’s built up between the inner and outer drum

ParticipantIf you have no domestic softener fitted I would try: 4 CAP fulls of liquid lemon Flash with 1 box of Aqua Softna descaling crystals on 60 degrees or higher wash programme.
