one for the buffs i suspect ??

does anyome know how much emf

    domestic appliances give off
is it more when they are in use
what distance away from appliance does emf travel

how is it measured …done a wee bit research but most of the sites went to were to indepth ,

    think emf meter gauss ,

    ant help apprieciated

    Re: EMF

Think i would find something else to worry about funkyboogy! The low frequency EMF given off by household appliances would be totally drowned by mobile phone transmissions, TV masts etc.
I think its only when you get to the tiny wavelength EMF like x rays that you’re in any danger, the microwave range from your mobile is what i’d be avoiding.. causes localized heating of the brain apparently :eeek:

cheers not really worried about emf effects etc…

just working on a wee project on emf for myself ,
trying to get good quick advice …

True enough Phidom, Electromotive force is another term for voltage (i think) but young funkyboogy’s getting excited about electromagnetic fields (i think) 😯

OK, being as one of my hobbies is being a Radio Ham I have a good grounding (pardon the pun.:rolls:) on EMF and it’s effects.

But just to answer your points on the subject…..

All EU standard domestic appliances are EMF rated to some degree and their mains filters are calibrated to suppress any ‘back EMF’ to power cables. Radiant EMF from domestic appliances is suppressed in exactly the same way but with the exception of those devices that have infra-red communication facilities such as TV and DVD’s. Radiant EMF from such devices being minimal and within line of sight only.

EMF radiation can travel an infinite distance depending on it’s frequency. The higher the frequency the further it travels and any frequency over (say) 2.5 Mhz can travel directly out into deep space and beyond……………

That’s the theory, but in practice the stray intermediate frequencies and ultimately the electromotive force of those stray frequencies too fractional to measure.

    HTH? 😀

    Re: EMF

well ill give you a clue

i stay in bonnybridge, still puzled google bonnybridge

seriously i got a new volt stick which has a secondry led which starts to glow when you are near any source of emf , was thinking it must be quite sensative.

got me thinking what component is it that picks up the emf and how sensative could they be made…

    ps google bonnybridge….spooky
pps im gona take new volt stick to pieces …

Looks like where Madmac lives you only have to pick up a fluorescent tube and it glows green!

    Re: EMF

TBH I couldn’t help but think that, if there were bug-eyed aliens in Bonnybridge if anyone would actually notice them amongst the indigenous population! 😆

So long as they knew how to queue at the Job Centre they’d probably go unnoticed.

Come to think on it there’s a few places in the UK that could hold to be true! 😉

Is there not a barrage of strange geeky looking spods up there that’d be able to check it out for you Ally? Usually where there’s this sort of thing happening the places are crawling with them.

    Re: EMF

I believe all electromagnetic radiation dissipates in accordance with the inverse square law, i.e. doubling the distance from the source will reduce the propagated energy by a factor of four
