    der,

Merloni could offer a good deal to many who are able to put up with the workload. Very often 10 calls a day (minimum) and if you fail to complete any of those, you will get another 10 tomorrow on top. Day in day out the pressure is on.

Job satisfaction is guaranteed but only for workaholics wanting to work from dawn til dusk. No rewards for slackers, I hope you have got what it takes my friend…Good luck!

    word of caution, der ;
i recently filled in the on line application form to work for merloni, and although they stipulate your application is confidential, my boss was contacted by the regional supervisor to ask him if he was aware his engineer was looking to leave him 👿 and this was before they even contacted me !
i spoke to the personnel dept to register my displeasure 🙄 and was met with a promise the regional manager would be informed and i would be contacted. that was 3 or 4 months ago, and i still have heard nothing !

    Welcome to the site Der.

And, just imagine the pressure that these guys will be under if this “2 day” service promise comes into effect from DSG (see The Rumour Mill), my guess is that it won’t be a whole lotta fun. 😕

    Re: employment with merloni

My wife worked in their call centre briefly, several years ago.

Back then they were booking up to 17 calls a day and similar to the above if they weren’t completed they had another 17 the next day. The other little gem was that their computer would allow the clowns on the phones to book jobs that were seventy miles apart!

Got so bad for one Engineer he topped himself and was found hanging from his garage ceiling!

Wife was actively encouraged to make a career move shortly after that.

This “two-day guaranteed” business looks like it might get them right back into this mess again.

    You have been warned.

You know Mike, that post has been preying on my mind all day and there’s no way that I’d ever expect an engineer to cope with that workload.

The result speaks for itself, I need add no more.

No doubt no blame was laid on the stress of the job though.

    Re: employment with merloni

    Correct, Correct and Correct

£16 per completed call, 15 calls a day
My completion was 87{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} after the initial 3 months, as then you know what stock to have on your van at your expense.

£16 * 13 completed calls=208+vat per day as long as you do not get any recalls, otherwise you loose £16+vat to the engineer who fixed appliance after you had been there.

Had to give it up in the end as could not make the franchise pay 😥 as £16+vat per call is not enough. 😯 Plus the district manager in our area for Merloni pinched one of our engineers who I trained up myself. 👿

What does the old saying say “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”
    I’m not bitter really 😕

    Andy,
£16, now? A friend of mine was doing E. Yorks coast calls franchise for Whirlpool 15 years ago for £15/completed and couldn’t make it pay then. How can it possibly pay now?

I’m a sole trader and it costs me £20some to ring somebody’s door bell, so that has to be daft. Why on earth did you take it on?

    Re: employment with merloni

IMO, silly mistakes and poor homework I suppose?

I had just come out of employment and everybody has to start some-where.
    Unfort’ I picked Berloni.
I was then a sole trader too. To increase my money, I eventually moved my call level up to 17 calls a day (no thanks to the DG6100 and DG6145 dishwashers) just to earn more money to live, eat and support my family as well as running costs of the van. To increase the money even more, outer tank changes I use to do on my own and get paid for 2 man, 2 unit job slots (which means you are killing yourself) and the little money left over sat in a high interest bank account.

I now employ two office staff, three engineers and I still go out on the road. I know what you’re going to say “whats the point of having a dog and barking yourself. The fact is I like it out on the road and could not sit in an office all day long pen pushing. I certainly could not afford to do this with the merloni franchise I had because when I was doing their work it was even worse!!!!! I was getting paid £15+vat per completed call.

I don’t think I have done too bad considering ther work load and poor call rate.

Still, I am standing in the light at the end of the tunnel and not prepaired to go down that road again, even though it costs me £28.47 to go to a call.

I have learnt my lesson and learnt it well

Been there done that one – I hope that some management in Merloni have time to read the above comments and ponder. Not that they will do that for long – a couple of days on the vans for some, would perhaps change the way they view their customer interface reps.

They are currently trying to entice employed engineers to take up franchise, something i was considering, but reading these comments it sounds like i be shooting myself in the foot if i took it up 🙁
