ModeratorJust had a customer ring me about her ISE machine.
I tried to use the Repair search facility but it is worse than useless.
I enter her correct post code M35 0MR and it says invalid, if I just enter M35 nothing happens.
If I enter my own post code s first the characters then it moves on to the next step but if I then select ISE from the drop down list it also comes up as invalid???In fact I have also entered Vestel and Hotpoint as makes and they both throw up invalid as well?

ModeratorRe: Engineer search
It won’t even register M35 which is kosher but it will accept my OL2 code.
Ad doesn’t explain why every make I enter comes up invalid?May 24, 2018 at 10:38 am #456028electrofix
ModeratorRe: Engineer search

KeymasterRe: Engineer search
The engineer search reads and finds addresses from Google so, if it doesn’t find it usually neither will Google. 😕
Google is of course updated using the RM PAF file so if there’s an error it’s usually with the PAF file from RM and, it does happen, there’s bog all anyone can do about it either.

Still doesn’t explain why when using my own postcode all manufacturers that I have tried come up invalid?

Sudeep would probably be able to find out but I cant see why unless the account isn’t live, then it wouldn’t.

Which account would that be?
Surely Joe Public doesn’t even have to register to use the engineer search?

No, I mean your account on the engineer search.
If that’s not active it won’t show any results.

Not sure I follow that. However as a test I have logged out of the forum and then tried the engineer search as a new punter and it still throws up invalid as soon as I select a manufacturer?
Tried on both iPad and PC as well.
Why should I need an account just to search for an engineer?

It’s not that Jim.
On the backend, if your account is not live it will not find you on there as, to the system, you don’t exist.
You cannot alter that, only administration can. You can’t see it either. This is deliberate.
It stops abuse basically.
Unless you’ve got an account live, created etc then you can login and see what’s live or not etc.
But I seem to recall we had issues with your postcode before or, some around there as IIRC there are errors on the RM PAF file so you get that. We see it all the time on new builds as well but there are some old ones that RM seem just to never have bothered to fix so, you always get errors on those.
I’ll ask Sudeep.

The postcode lookup is linked with google to verify. This was because lots spams and bots try to abuse the system. Therefore when postcode is not found in google database, it just refuses to go any further.
As you have seen if the postcode, it will work as a feather.
Jim I have checked your account too and all seems to be ok there. You can always login into your account and manage it.
Please let me know if you have any trouble to access your account.
Thanks
Sudeep

My problem is not that I can’t log or start a search, I can. It’s nothing to do with my postcode.
I enter any post code, say my daughters which is SK4, then I can select machine type, it’s only when I select the make of appliance that it falls over and throws up invalid. If it was anything to do with my account surely it wouldn’t let me complete steps 1& 2 before failing.

ModeratorRe: Engineer search
This is what I am getting with different postcodes, on different PC’s logged in or logged out.
I have now tried 10 different makes of appliance and at step 3 it fails.
