ParticipantI’m not brilliant with computers and I’ve never used a forum before, so I’m sorry if I’ve done it all wrong.
I’m trying to help my mum, who has a very old cooker ‘English Electric Double Oven Cooker Model 2034’. I don’t know exactly how old, but I think it is around 50 years. It has an automatic timer clock, which is not original but is still pretty old – it’s a ‘Smiths sectrimatic cooker clock’. Its diameter is roughly 9 cm although it’s hard to measure because there is a knob sticking out in the centre of it.
This clock probably needs replacing because, although it seems to work still, it has for some time been making a VERY loud ticking noise, and my mum is worried that it’s on its last legs. She has been told that the clock is obsolete now, but she is very attached to her cooker, which works perfectly well in all other respects.
Does anyone know where it might be possible to find a replacement clock?
Thank you very much.December 13, 2005 at 7:42 pm #157452iadom

Hi Ruth, you’re first post is fine for a forum newbie. Sorry to say, but you will find it virtually impossible to source any parts for a machine of that age. It will have been declared obsolete more than 20 years ago. As long as the machine is working then I wouldn’t worry about it. lots of old cookers, central heating, and other appliances with old type timers run perfectly well for years making all sorts of groaning, clicking, growling noises, ( a bit like old service engineers ) 😀

Thank you very much for your reply. What you say doesn’t really surprise me, but we thought it was worth a try. I hope the cooker lasts at least until we’ve all had our Christmas dinner, anyway!

Even if the clock fails it should still be possible to use the cooker manually without the auto timer.
Enjoy your turkey. 🙂December 14, 2005 at 10:14 pm #157455Ruth
