Have you noticed there are quite a few nearly new washing machines being recycled, including a Samsung Ecobubble (front left), a large capacity Miele (middle bank, 4th from left), Hotpoint Futura (rear bank, 2nd from left). Evidence of the throw away society, I suppose.

So far as I know and, this may not be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurate…
Envirocom gets all/most Currys returns.
Most “refurbs” go out to the public through the British Heart Foundation stores.
There is a very strong connection between DSG and Envirocom.
Read into that what you will.

I visited their 10 acre site before, got to say it i wasn’t that impressed!
They get all the machines from currys they won a 5 year contract with currys it helps currys “offset” the cost of their weee obligations not really sure how that works seeing they’re two different companies with two different sets of obligations! Unless currys are selling them has repairable although the customer said it’s weee. But i was told when there that the profit from selling them offset the cost of currys weee obligations! Just sounded dodgy to me!
Basically the machines come in they’re sorted through and its a plug and play exercise. If they work they clean them up grade them the British heart foundation them has the pick of the bunch and it works its way down hill from there! But they do sell them mainly to the British heart foundation for their shops.
From what I saw there was no real evidence of much in the way of engineers the machines either worked or they didn’t! They had a back to base g’tee if they went wrong take it back they give you another one! The machines was in a poor state even by raw, standards as dented or scratched to high heaven.phil

I saw this guy give a presentation ,very slick ,had a lot say apart from when he was pressed on his reuse over recycling figures.
He also didn’t like the inference that by hoovering up most of the returns from DSG and taking the appliances from local authority sites Environcom were actually preventing reuse from happening.June 4, 2013 at 11:49 pm #395923cornwell40

They spend nothing on the refurbishing of these machines so I am informed. If an appliance requires parts they will only use the parts from other machines (How true that is I don’t know).
A 5 year old Bosch in my shop got a £126 makeover yesterday and will be back on the market for £185 tomorrow; Huge difference.
With this sort of company, if there is no profit in a weee item, that weee item will not treated and that machine ends-up in the scrap. In my setup, any weee machine can infer a loss of upto £25.. That ofset by the profit of other weee products.
