    Hello,

My Electrolux EW1200i (914674010/01) appears to have developed a fault.

The program reaches the spin cycle, makes three attempts to redistribute the laundry, all of which appear to fail, and then gives up. When the problem first occurred, I solved it with some manual redistribution. This is no longer effective: I’ve made many attempts, varied the amount of laundry in the machine, redistributed it, nothing works.

I read on another site that worn carbon brushes can be one possible cause (the machine is about 12 years old); but when I search for carbon brushes for this model, I find nothing, even on the Electrolux parts site (which does carry other spares for this model). Is this model obsolete or different in some way, or am I just looking in the wrong places? Any advice much appreciated. I’m trying to figure out cost, and feasibility of doing the repair myself.

UPDATE: I hadn’t thought to try the slower spin program, and this seems to work normally. Does this rule out carbon brushes?

Could be a brush fault, but how you describe it is generally a timer unit fault. Brushes are available but if the lengths are ok (check first) then I would be changing the timer.

Thanks for the quick reply Tim – you got in before I could update my original message, where I’ve added that the slower spin program seems to work normally. Would you say that confirmed your theory?
