Exploding oven door…..

Just had a phone call from a mate who’s got a Whirlpool single built in oven from Ikea . He’s had the oven for about 14/15 months and it seems that the glass in the outer door just , in his words , ‘exploded’ yesterday as he closed the door .

I’ve seen glass doors/panels on Bosch/Neff ovens that have gone but normally whilst cooking . In this case , my mate is adamant that he hadn’t actually used the oven and was just putting a baking tray back into the oven .
Initially i thought that amybe the baking tray had jammed against the glass as he closed the door but surely that would have damaged the inner glass….not shatter the outer panel.

Has any of you lads heard of this glass shattering on a cold oven ?

my understanding of this is if the glass had a v, small fracture in the corner the smallest amount of stress on the glass would cause the glass to shatter.
