Went to a single whirlpool oven and when I pulled it out after running it at 200 for a bit the bottom of the oven was roasting hot. Insulation seemed fine and it’s only 3 years old. Is this normal on the cheaper stuff? Worried it could scorch the cupboard

Just to add I had been running it using the bottom element

You’d have to measure the temps to be sure but what they ought to be and where to measure is explained here:

What would be the acceptable at the bottom though? I can’t see anything on there for that area?

This was what I was looking for, it’s the BSI standards that still apply:

Basically, they can get bloody hot! Something in the order of 80˚C-100˚C would not be out of the question.

Yes this was bloody hot , couldn’t touch base for more than a second or so. Obviously the bottom element is right there so I expect it to be hot but this seemed excessive?

The underside that is, not the cavity obviously

Interesting to read , so a kitchen cabinet is normally heat resistant to 100c , you learn something new everyday 🙂

Yep and a lot of them aren’t sadly.

Might also be worth double checking the installation instructions as there are some that are meant to be mounted on brackets without a cabinet base.
