Hi, I have recently moved my 16 year-old Zanussi side-by-side fridge freezer into the garage after getting a new kitchen fitted (It had worked fine before it was moved) I defrosted it, left it to settle for at least 24 hrs before switching it back on, and checked the temperature before putting the stuff back in. After less than a week the fridge is working but I have had to chuck out the stuff I put in the freezer because it was part thawed. Is it likely to be something obvious/repairable, or is it ready for the big kitchen in the sky?

Most fridge/freezers will not operate correctly if the ambient temperature falls below 5degs C. Your garage may well be colder outside your fridge than inside during the winter months. So if that is the case, in order the fridge works like in did indoors (where the temp usually is a min of 18C) you will need to go to the vast expense of heating your garage to at least an average 24hr of (say) 15C. 😉

Yes, Martin is correct and it’s the most likely cause although some models are worse than others and some will not operate if the ambient is below 10?C.
