Hi all. My Miele dishwasher is just under 6 years old and it has come up with an F13 error on the screen. The F13 does not show at a particular time in the cycle but is rather random (beginning, middle or end) in every cycle.

Last year the dishwasher developed some noise and the Miele technician (under warranty) came out and replaced the sump pump. Not sure if this has any bearing on the fault?

Last month I had a new bathroom fitted upstairs and the plumber fitted some new copper pipes (the position of the bath/basin/toilet changed). Again, I am not sure if this has any bearing (thinking along the lines of whether water pressure has been affected)?

The washing machine (also a Miele) is connected to the same pipe as the dishwasher so if the F13 was because of low water pressure I’d assume that the washing machine would be showing the same error??

I have checked the WPS (filter and restrictor disc inside) and it seems fine and no gunk or blockage.

Could anyone kindly give some advice as to what else i can do please?

    Thank you in advance.

i think it is a fill problem

if the fill sensor does not detect enough water in a given time it faults out

Thank you Dave. Is there anything that I can do to sort it out or does it need a new fill sensor?

the fill sensor is a reed switch mounted on the water inlet. A water turbine with a spinning magnet closes the switch every revolution. You problem can be low water flow or this switch mis counting. The fact the washing machine is ok does not mean the dishwasher will be

I know on the washers it possible to set them up for lower water pressure it may be possible on dishwashers too

have you got low water pressure ?

The water pressure has been ok in our area and the dishwasher has worked fine for 6 years. The only thing I can think of is that the new pipework that has been fitted in the bathroom upstairs may have somehow affected the water pressure on the dishwasher?

Would it help if I tried to connect the dishwasher to the hot water tap instead?

try disconnecting the dishwasher and turn the tap on into a bucket with another hose and see what sort of flow you get

I’ll try that in a bit. Although the water pressure doesnt seem any different on the kitchen tap and the dishwasher feed is in the same line and a fe winches apart from that.

I tried using the dishwasher today and it started fine. The cycle was about 1.5 hours long. It worked fine for 40 minutes or so and then during one of the water intakes it came up with F13 and just emptied whatever was left and stopped. I put it on again, straight away on the same cycle (without a detergent tablet in) and it completed the cycle with no F13 error at all.

Could this be a faulty fill sensor? If that is the case would you happen to have any idea how much it would cost to fix? If it is up to £200 I dont mind fixing it but any more than that, I might as well buy a new dishwasher.

cost of fixing depends on your engineer and the part costs

we are assuming its the sensor but dont know for certain.

since the sensor may use a reed switch it possible to find a suitable part and solder it in which makes things a lot cheaper then using a miele part. If it uses a hall sensor then it would need changing with no guarentee of sucess

Hi Dave , I think I have similar flowmeter issue with my dishwasher. The flowmeter says 61616038 on it. please advise what wud be equivalent reed switch it would need. Thank you

you have to search on RS components or similar for a reed switch of similar dimensions

Thanks Dave, looked at RS several Reed switches available each measuring 14mm!. do they work on 240v ac & are they normally open ?
    Cheers

most reed switches are normally open and i dont think its working on 240. the ones i use a lot are part no 362-2495

fitted lots of these to various machines with no problem and they are rated 140V

Hi, I just wanted to share that the reed switch replacement solved my F13 error as well. Machine is about 7/8 years old and the fault was intemittant. I removed the circuit board and tested the continuity and my multi meter showed that the reed switch was stuck in the closed state when it should have been open.

I replaced it with: SP-NO Reed Switch, 1A 230V ac/dc Stock no.:362-2530 since I suspect that sensor does actally carry 240v (based on my inadvertent contact with the board while it was live… be careful). The replacement is a little bigger but still fits comfortably between the two soldering points and is super simple to replace, I was just careful to ensure that the reeds in the switch faced up/down rather than side/side.

    Thanks Dave!
