BlockedAs per the radio yesterday, Facebook has appoximately 15 Million ‘Active’ profiles in the UK.
I’ve looked into advertising on facebook as I have a profile there, and it seems it’s a lot like Google Adwords with pay per click etc. I’ve now got an ad running!
Does anyone else use Facebook Adverts? Thought I’d ask as was quite shocked to see over 11,000 impressions since my ad started running less than 12hrs ago!
Adrian 🙂

I’ve thought about it, mainly because you can localise the ads so that only people in your area can see them (No point someone 200 miles away clicking on it).
Be interesting to see how you get on regarding costs/results etc.

You can set your own cost per click and daily maximum spend so you’re in control of what you spend. I’ve set mine to over 18 yr old profiles and a 30 Mile radius of Cardiff.
So far, I’ve had 11,632 impressions & 4 Clicks. I’ll see whether it generates anything in the near future, but with that many impressions, and the massive amount of Facebook users, it must be worth a shot!

I hope you’re right but looking at your website placement on Google you need’nt bother any Facebook expense whatsoever. Just with one small addition mind you. On your ‘areas covered’ page simply name all the towns and villages you cover rather than just a map of South Wales.* Then see your Google rating shoot up…………..FOR FREE!!!! 😀
* You only come up front on Google right now if someone searches on say “Washing Machine Repairs in South Wales” but if they put in Cardiff, Barry or Penarth you don’t exist? 😕July 22, 2010 at 12:18 pm #325933VillageIdiot2

I don’t always appear anyway 😕
I just searched “Fridge repairs in Cardiff” and appeared 2nd 🙂
But I could do the same search later, and I don’t appear at all 😥

Oh absolutely true after all Google is just a very very intelligent machine. Hence the vital importance for any website to have as many KEYWORDS as possible for this fast thinking machine to lock onto, in a nanosecond, and put you in star position. 😀
Not sure the nerds on Facebook would have the same interlect for seeking out a business, but I may be wrong there as I don’t do Facebook. 😉

There is a lot of Networking going on for sure and it is a way to contact peeps, although it would be worth asking people what they use to look for an engineer, I doubt Facebook would at this time be high in the list, in future maybe.
On Radio 2 today they discussed Facebook as a tool and there seems to be a shift in popularity, it is slowly becoming less “In” and appearing to be for less intelligent people interested only in showing off there great life, which isn’t always true, less of a tool rather more only used by tools.
I would place more faith in Twitter, Bebo, but that too may shift for something new and improved.

Agreed! But it’s about awareness more than people ‘Looking’ for a repair. If people see the add, they ‘Like it’ and it remains on their profile. At a later date, they might refer back to it…
Not sure how it will do, nothing bar a few quid to lose in the short term by trying, one thing is for sure though, my add has been on 11,632 peoples screens today!
I’ve also created a Facebook Page today that my friends can ‘Like’. As one ‘Likes’ the page, it gets advertised to all their friends also on various ‘News Feeds’ so it sorta ‘Pyramids’ if you get me?
Anyway, will keep posting my experiences with Facebook advertising here as things happen, or not… Whichever!

I just searched for you adrian as Washing Machines South Wales, 1st was the usually 0800 and repaircare, then these guys.
There near you and charge £10-15.00 call out charge, this is why I hate the Internet for business, yes its great to advertise, its also great for the competition and I hate competition. 👿

I don’t know why sometimes I appear, and othertimes don’t… Will be my next investigation when I have another quiet day at the office! No doubt I have to change something in Adwords that I’m un aware of at the moment, but we’ll see.

if you are doing add words
the top 3 adds will be payin £3-4 per click in peak times … is really just a bidding war at the top … very expensive game ,
after top 3 you should drop down lft side to the next 7 slots , but even they adds could be outbiding you ..
better spending your cash on a good seo company who will get you top 5 spot using the natural listing .
dont know about face book myself , yes its a captive audience , but do i think customers will log in t0 face book to find a repair co … ??
if your tryn to tract new customes google page 1 is the holy grail.. we recently changed our statedgy as 1 our of target area (edinburgh) was getting quite expensive.. we now focusing on the natural listings and the video route as mentioned on other post.
the other post i done about networking web sites etc , will help each of our webs to crawl up google and hopefully keep a good spot. so if you pm your links i will put them i the post ,
