Our landlord just installed a new Fagor 5H-14X oven after the grill function on the old oven died. It’s installed in a cavity between the cupboards, below the separate hob. We’ve only used it once, cos it got really hot on the outside – both the door and control panel with the knobs on heated up, and the work surface above the oven got hot too. The oven was on at 200 degrees for about half an hour.
I don’t think it should be heating up on the outside like that (the old oven certainly didn’t), but when I told our landlord he shrugged as if I was making a fuss about nothing and said he’d get us a new oven but it would be the same make and model as the current oven.
Is this likely to be a fault with this particular oven, or is it a general problem with that model of oven? If it’s the model, is it actually safe to use with careful handling? I can’t find a single online review for this product so any help with this would be fantastic. Cheers!

    Hi talyra,

It’s probably legal and has no fault, all is explained in this article

It has to get extremely hot indeed to breach the legislation.

It is also worth checking the oven is correctly vented in accordance with the installation instructions.

    Hope that helps.

    K.

Though I find it slightly alarming that an oven that can cause burns is actually considered “safe”, I guess we have to live with it 🙁
Thankyou for pointing me to the article – I guess I better go apologise to the repair man my landlord called 😳
