ParticipantMy wife has owned an A901E and run it several times a year for the past 35 years or so. Tonight, after she had run it on a low speed setting processing a cake mix for about 10 minutes, it made a ‘popping’ noise rather like a fuse blowing. It kept running but was soon enveloped in a cloud of thin white smoke which dispersed quite quickly after she turned it off. It continues to work when switched back on but makes what sounds like a fairly faint electrical arcing sound. Does anyone have any ideas what has happened? Might it be that a motor brush has failed?

You do not say where in the country you are but it could be the elecrtrics and or the carbon brushes. You may contact us on 01350 724248 for any further help.

South Lincolnshire, so quite a long way from you up there in Scotland 🙁 I will give you a call when my wife is around to answer any questions about what actually happened when the device failed. Thanks.

we are in york so a bit nearer & I agree with possible motor brushes, but sometimes the components on the pcb can give the same sort of fault,
very good machine, worth having repaired.cheers

What’s the best way to go about that? What are the chances of it being irreparable?

Thanks. They were very helpful when I needed a replacement accessory for the machine so, yes, I’ll most probably try them. Boston is a b*gg*r of a place for traffic and parking, though, and I didn’t want to incur a charge only to be told the thing was past economic repair. Mind you, looking at the cost of new Kenwoods, it’s certainly worth going down that route. I see replacement brushes are only about a fiver on line so; if they were the cause of my problems, it would be nice if I could check them out (replace them?) myself first. How difficult would that be? On the other hand, if the problem was in the pcb, as suggested by Davecas, how expensive might that be?
