Fairy Liquid Disaster – Whirlpool DWF416 (IKEA built in)

I inadvertently placed a large dish in the dishwasher that had been soaked in washing up liquid – the result, a foamy white flood in the kitchen – I stopped the cycle and removed all items then reset the machine to rinse.

It rinsed but left the machine half full of foam – I rinsed again but it eventually stopped – bleeping continuously. Now I can’t get it to start – all I get is the constant bleep, and the start light flashing twice repeatedly

any suggestions ?

There’s a good chance the oversudsing created a flooded baseplate? There is a flood protection device on that baseplate and it may well be swimming in water right now 💡

Thanks, I suspect that you’re right – How do I get to the base plate on a built in dishwasher ?

You should be able to access it by removing the plinth etc, it’s basically right near the floor.

Otherwise, uninstall the dishwasher as it will be easier to clear the base that way.

You’re not alone! Ours wasn’t cleaning too well, it often left a gungy residue in the bottom of cups. But we’re dafter than you, because rather than introduce Fairy liquid accidentally, we deliberately squirted some in without dishes, and set it off on a cycle. Same result as yours; a foamy kitchen and constant bleeping.

i had the same problem with my whirpool dishwasher, what i did was drain it by hand, (hard work and messy) clear the filter and drains, rinsed the waste pipe, then turned it on and held the start button until the program restarted and this did the trick, have not had a problem since , touchwood.

once you have cleaned the baseplate of water you will need to reset the appliance, do this by holding down the start button for about 10 seconds to clear the fault, and test the appliance again.

A very old tip, a handlful of table salt thrown in will help reduce foaming at time of accident.
