After the pounding 😉 that I have had recently from mr j bond & indespoint it does make you stop and think. Also yesterday I sent some tech info and wiring diagrams to a trade member. He was very grateful and thanked me profusely, but also wondered why I did it and how I found the time. Good question I thought, then an hour or so ago I received this e-mail and realised just why I do try to help, it made my night and strengthened my resolve to keep on ‘helping out’

    Jim,

never done this before but felt compelled to write.

Just read a series of exchanges on Hotpoint TDC condenser dryer thermostats causing the ‘no heat’ problem on the UKWhitegoods site. I had diagnosed the same source for failure on our machine and had replaced the stats. When I was pushing on the greenspot to get a good connection my finger slipped and I heard the cover pop. I had been wondering if that was a ‘repair failure mode’ as the machine did not heat up again after the repair. It was irritating me as I was sure that I had done all the circuit checks correctly and then cursed myself for being so clumsy. A follow-up circuit check was inconclusive as it indicated a closed circuit but with a very weak indication. I was pretty certain that was the issue but your comments the other day confirmed it. I couldn’t believe the coincidence of timing. You wrote that comment on the 18th Feb and I did my repair on the 20th. Having found the UK Whitegoods forum tonight after having spent 45 minutes following useless blind alleys up so-called ‘fix your appliance’ sites all of which were universally useless, I find you making the exact comment I was looking for. I can now re-do the repair with confidence (and more care).
As I was so pleased with finding the answer to my curiosity I checked your profile and then all became clear. A Lancashire lad who’s a Man Yoo fan. I should have known.
Although living in Essex now, I was born and brought up in South Manchester (when it was stil Lancashire) and spent many a happy hour and the occasional frustrating one on the old Stretford Paddock. Only get up home on rare occassions sadly.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for for being so honest with your advice on the site. I’ll be sure to check up again if I have any other queries. I guess your advice probably helps a lot of people. I’m not sure how many would say thanks.

    Keep the faith.

It’s nice when people say thank and we get a few, we don’t publish them as it seems somewhat trite IMO and is done to death.

I suppose we should maybe publish them.

    Re: Faith restored

That’s exactly the reason I shy away from doing it Martin.

TBH, so long as people keep coming back (which they do, we’ve proved that), recommending others and using the services from the site then that’s all we need. The point being that I prefer the soft-sell approach to everything with nothing being thrust in people’s faces, I find it annoying and insulting and I’m quite sure I’m not the only one.

Since we dont’ exactly go totally overboard with the “call the pros”, “buy a part from us” type things I can’t see how on Earth either of the two can claim that we do. But then you see what you want to I guess to an extent and both have an axe to grind with UKW. I think they’re just looking for something, anything, to have a pop about.

    There will be more.

My take on it is simply to make them look like idiots and continue to help people, the customers that do get help, an engineer or a part etc. will be the judges of how well we do.

I liked this line from the e-mail in particular, 😀
