ParticipantI have a Zanussi ZDQ695X double oven. The fan oven doesn’t heat up, but everything else, as far as I can tell, is working: the fan sems to be ok, the grill and main oven functions all seem to work. I replaced the element and the damn thing still doesn’t heat. Any suggestions for where to turn next on this particular model (I note the comments on changeover switches and thermostats on your help and advice pages).

did you test the original element??? if not test it…this will obviously take the element as the problem out of the picture if it tests ok. 😉 then you can look for the real fault.

when you turn the main oven on do you get the stat light come on.

ParticipantRe: Fan oven doesn’t heat, but element is OK
Won’t be able to test the old element until Monday, but it seems to be visually OK. No signs of damage. The new element I put in is doing no better than the old one. No heat!
Don’t know what you mean by a stat light, Gordy, but all other functions of the main oven seem to be as before. The only fault seems to be the lack of heat on the fan oven setting.
Does the fan oven work of a separate thermostat?

the stat light is the neon whtch tells you when temperature is attained ,then go,s out.

Hi Gordy
Yes, the stat light is working. The main oven functions as normal, except on the fan oven setting. The stat light seems to be working on the fan oven setting also, but the oven doesn’t heat up. This suggests to me that the thermostat is ok and that something else is wrong.

Damage to the function selector switch could cause these symptoms.
Power off if investigating.

Ok. Will see if I can check this. Is this likely to be accessible from the back of the oven. BTW, the fan and oven light both come on when the fan oven function is selected using the switch on the front panel. This made me think that the switch was not to blame???

KeymasterRe: Fan oven doesn’t heat, but element is OK
Hi Dan,
Have both elements been checked with a meter for continuity? Everything you’ve described points to a classic element failure is why I’m asking, usually if the switch goes you’d get other faults as well and, with the stat, it’s unusual to get them failing closed.
Where did you get the new element?

I can get hold of a multimeter on Monday, so I’ll check them both then. Will let you know the result.
Got the element from Element Man in Birmingham.
Many thanks for the advice.

Participanti hope this isnt ANOTHER case of the customer changing the wrong element again, since the stat light is functioning, and the fan is running, its very likely theres some feed to the element.
it was only the other week someone had the same problem, and they changed the wrong element!

ParticipantRe: Fan oven doesn’t heat, but element is OK
The element I changed is the coiled one behind the back plate of the oven, 240V, 2500 W, code 311644800. Neither it nor the replacement are giving out any heat.
Is there another element that I should be looking at? Is there a fuse in the circuitry that could be at fault?
September 2, 2007 at 11:28 am #226344kwatt
KeymasterThere could be an overheat stat and that would chop the power to the element although usually it would cut power to all the elements in the cavity.
That’s the odd thing about this Dan, usually if you loose a feed down to the elements it will kill the lot, not just one. As we said the switch is possible, but it is very unusual to just affect one element if it fails, especially the fan one as usually it’s the live changeover that will fry so you get nadda from the whole oven.

ParticipantRe: Fan oven doesn’t heat, but element is OK
Understood. I’ll check the elements, and then if they are ok, take the oven out and just check for any abvious stuff, like loose wires. Then I may have to call in a professional if it’s still not working.

ParticipantDid you change the element from inside the oven ? If so , could it be possible that a wire has dropped off the back of the element as you replaced it ? I’d just check that all wires are still connected before calling out a proffessional……Power off of course
