Ok, checked the first and orginal element for continuity and it’s fine. Next step is to get the oven out and check for obvious wiring faults.

i hate to say this….but i will…POWER OFF…get oven out.. get back off…
get oven in a stable position…BE CAREFULL NOW..power on,oven on, is fan working? then put meter across the element terminals. 240v = element fault. no volts supply fault. ONLY DO THIS TEST IF YOU ARE COMPETENT AND VERY AWARE OF THE DANGER OF DEATH… IT IS A LAST RESORT SO YOU CAN ELININATE THE ELEMENT AS THE FAULTY PART OR NOT!!!!!IF YOU DON’T FEEL THAT THE RISK IS WORTH IT..DON’T DO IT CALL A PROFFESSIONAL
i told you i didn’t want to say this…SORRY MODERATORS 😳

KeymasterDO NOT LIVE TEST – – EVER!
It is highly dangerous, highly inadvisable and can lead to a serious risk of death. It is also illegal for a business to do this under H&S legislation Richard.
DO NOT DO IT!
UK Whitegoods, as well as myself personally, does not and will not condone live testing.
If you’re at that stage, get in a pro.

Participantyup, has said live testing is beyond insanity
we cant condone it, and we cannot and will not be held responsible for any injury caused..
unplug it, if u really know how to use a meter, youll find it, its simple really
leave the plug out!!!

Many thanks for all your advice. I have no intention of testing live equipment – heard too many horror stories. I will look for obvious faults, loose wires, scorch marks and so on. If nothing presents, I have a friend who is a professional electrician, who will probably look at it for a suitable liquid bribe (after the event, of course).
