ParticipantCaple oven is gaining time about 1 minute per week Caple say it’s because the incoming voltage is more than 240v but SSE say it’s in acceptable limits, could this be due to poor quality quarts ?

from the web
in the UK, the declared voltage and tolerance for an electricity supply is 230 volts -6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, +10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. This gives an allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts.

Moderatorall modern clocks are powered by computer chips. computer chips need low voltages
these low voltages are provided by regulated power supplies the regulate the voltage within bounds so a voltage rise of any kind should have no influence on the speed of a clock. the clocking speed is derived from a quartz crystal resonant frequency which cant be altered by anythingolder clocks use the frequency of the mains which can vary slightly 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} either way. It would have to be very old to use one of those

ParticipantHi Dave thanks for the information that’s great, our oven is brand new and second one that the manufacturer Caple has tried
any thoughtsAugust 21, 2025 at 10:42 pm #493487electrofix
Moderatorwell if 2 ovens are doing the same thing , the supply voltage is within bounds and you have no control over it anyway
then the appliance is not fit for purpose and could be described as not of merchantable quality
ask for a refund if they are not able to guarantee its reliability

ParticipantThank you Dave, I may well have to explore that option Caple have had the original oven back and have said that they put it on test for one week and the clock was perfect, but of course that’s easy said !
