KeymasterRe: fAULT CODE BOOK
I have started on it but time to get it done is sparse.
The simple fact of it is, it doesn’t pay the wages. In fact if you consider the time it takes as a cost UKW made a loss on the Fault Code Guide and it is therefore not regarded as a priority I’m afraid.
After we hit the “go” button we learned that it cost £X thousands to print and that there was a considerable period before even that cost was recouped let alone the weeks and weeks of time that it takes to write.
That said, it’s not done for the money at all, the point wasn’t to earn from publishing the book but to provide the information in a useable format you could carry into a house. It did that I reckon.
But due to the cost and time it takes I am limited on what can be done on this front.
This isn’t helped by the fact that I have to totally reformat the information and effectively rewrite all the info as well as it has to be done in another format due to the sheer size of the file.
Then there’s the fact that there would likely be a considerable price hike as it’s going to be a lot bigger, with a lot more information in it.
In short, there’s not a lot of good news on this front but it is still a live project and it should get done at some point. Quite when that will be I really can’t say for sure.

Is this something that would be better available as a download that could be printed off ourselves ? I guess most peope have access to a printer, and even a laminator these days ?

KeymasterTBH, it’s the same amount of work/time required to do it in the first place so, not really is the straight answer.
And, if it’s a free download as it would ultimately end up becoming whether that’s the intent or not, then there is now way to recoup the cost of the work. Something that a certain company just didn’t get as, once it’s out in the electronic wild, it’s a free for all and it’d get out to not only the trade but public as well.
I don’t have a huge problem with that per say but it does remain a concern as it really is a sh**load of work to do it. And, to be blunt, there’s much more in the “to do” list in front of the FCG.
I will try to get a look at it again but I know that the printing costs alone (as I have priced that) works out to about £18 a book. Not huge I know, but almost double the last one. 😕
