    Hi David,

Have you done that swim yet? 😉

    FCG here now:

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fault-co … 20307?mt=8

FOC for the moment, but that will change.

Android version coming, possibly a month or two away.

But, there will be no more paper copies or PDF as it’s just too much hassle, much easier to update the database and upload to Google or Apple.

Is there a way to get this other than itunes as they want payment details before I start ie. credit card?

    Re: fault code guide

    Hi robbra,

No, we have to operate within the App Store rules and policies which are pretty stringent so there is no way to get this or, any other non-jailbroken device, without adhering to the rules and using the official stores.

Of course, we must comply with their policies.

Squadman, yes it is available to anyone. Again we have to comply with the rules and you cannot make an App available to only certain people or groups.

Both those policies apply to both the Apple App Store and Google Marketplace.

    Re: fault code guide

I can see a few people setting up a repairers using this App and the info it contains as well as I phone experts telling us our jobs, Although its great to keep up with modern trends once this kind of knowledge is in the public domain in one easy to use resource I am sure it will cause us issues, all that was needed was a PDF version downloadable from this site and which could be used on Iphone or android devices.

    Ho Hum !

Not doable squadman, it takes up far, far too much time.

Had you been at the meeting you would have received the full explanation.

    Re: fault code guide

What i dont understand is that by using a PDF version of the FCG which can be used on either platform why bother with SKDs etc and and the same time allowing the FCG to become a full general public resource ? I must be missng something here ?

    Re: fault code guide

    Lots. 🙂

The FCG as a PDF or published is a complete PITA to maintain, you end up with versions all over the shop and so on.

You can also find it copied and available on various illegal download sites, so the public have access to it anyway. The argument that an app is more “open” to the public is a fallacy.

Using an app, one central database and when there’s an update you just update the apps on the stores, easy. All are always up to date and information is easily added or altered.

Apps can’t be copied unless to jailbroken devices etc. and, if someone goes to the lengths required to do that, good luck to them.

    It isn’t free.

It’s free for now but won’t be for much longer, after that it will be priced at £39.99 per year. Casual members of the public won’t pay that.

Casual members of the public won’t pay that. ?

So who are casual members of the Public ? Whilst I take onboard the many points and scenarios that you put forward Ken I still do not understand why anyone will have access to this valuable trade resource, I mean can you Imagine Bosch, Electrolux or say Ford producing a App outlining their product fault codes ?

The members of this site are not likely to pass on the FCG or upload it to numerous illegal Torrents, I just cannot see that happening.

Its interesting to note that a subscription fee will be charged, is this going to be the cost to UK Whitegoods & WTA members Ken ?
