ParticipantI have a 3 year old Samsung SRS2028CSS side-by-side american style fridge/freezer. Recently it has developed a fault wherby it defrosts every 12 hours or so. If you unplug it and plug it back in, it works normally again for about 12 hours. Have had a firm out which changed the PCB but this has not worked. Any ideas what this might be?
Is it likely to be cost effective to repair or should I just replace it, as you can pick these up now for about £700 anyway?

Hi,
Usually within the PCB is a built in defrost cycle, Samsung are around 6 to 8 hour cycles, so if since the replacement of the PCB the fault has not been rectified at all……a) call back the firm who did this repair and ask them to rectify what they did not fix in the 1st instance.
b) If the fault is exactly the same as before the PCB was replaced and has not been fixed at all, the fault probably lies within a defrost sensor or wiring loom.
c) I have no technical on this model and as Samsung and their website are hopeless as far as independents are concerned, I suggest you go to their authorised service agent ( best of luck there). It’s a shame that these companies aren’t able to support us with technical help.
d) Call it a day and buy an appliance with a trained engineering force to back up their service, that will be very hard to find, perhaps better the devil you know.
e) We have two of these on the go at the moment where we tried the defrost sensor first without curing the fault, therefore we are about to try the PCB’S, with Tech support that we have received from Samsung we will not be taking on any more repairs on Samsung models.
As for these costing £700.00 nowadays, no thanks, the best ones cost over £7,000 (Amana).

I have one of these on the go would run for 2 hours ok then never come back on. Chsnged PCB, ran for 10 hours then same fault. Getting hold of their technical is like trying to buy an Xbox 360 (rarer than rockin horse doo doo)

Is it worth offering this up on ebay?
Presumably it’s worth fixing to someone ‘in the know’ who might be able to obtain parts at cost price.Steve

Have an update.
Fridge has not worked for 3 months now.
Made big fuss with Samsung Customer Services about their unwillingness to help as unit over 2 years old, (it’s 3 years old). They agreed to pay labour costs and so Expert Appliance have been round.
First they changed the PCB, even though it had been changed already. This didn’t fix the fault.
Second, they changed the compressor, saying that it had a reading of 5, when it should be 1, of whatever measurement they use???
Finally, today they have changed the defrost heater element on the fridge side as it had unusually high resistance readings.
Am waiting to see if this fixes the problem. Will post back with answer.

If it comes back tell him to check the fridge evaporator sensor.
If this goes faulty, the fridge never turns back after its defrost usually every 12 hours. It can be tested by engineer mode>forced defrost>if thermal fuse is ok, new sensor is required.
I would only advise an engineer to do it so wont say how to get engineer mode.
What area you from?

I have same problem. SR-S2028CSS freezer display freezes after thermostat cuts out (-18 or what ever selected) then doesn’t change and stat doesn’t cut back in unless power is turn off then on. The temp then shows correct temp and stat cuts in. SAMSUNG are of no help suprise suprise. Don’t want to spend £350 on PCB to find fault still there on a £700 fridge. Are Samsung making fridges you throw away after 2 years. Anyone help please??
