Participantwhen I start my hotpoint fdm550 on any programme it takes in water as it should then empties immediately and ALL the lights flash rapidly. I know it’s an Indeset really and it is three years old but I am quite fond of it! it sounds serious to me.

The start/pause button light and the three, right hand vertical lights are used for the error codes on these but the on/off, salt and rinse aid will flash at the same time. Are you sure that all three vertical lights AND the start/pause button light are flashing, there is no fault code for all four flashing.

Sorry the on/off button is not flashing, just the three on the right and the two on the left.

Water turbine faulty, it’s part of the clear plastic fill chamber.
PS. It’s the start/ pause button, not the on/ off button. 😉

Brilliant!! How do I get to it? I have not had to get into this machine before. When you say “faulty” do you mean it will need replacing or is it a repairable part?

It’s behind the left hand (from front) side panel, complete unit, not expensive.

That’s great! I am off to Silverstone to drive some very fast cars for the weekend, kids bought it for my birthday, so Monday I will get started. Thank you very much for your help–you’re a star!!

I am into the side of the machine, can see the clear plastic unit, do I replace the whole unit or does the turbine separate from the clear plastic unit. Have you a part number for replacement, please?

Thanks have ordered new unit but am not sure how old one comes off. It seems to be a pushfit but I don’t want to force it in case it is not! How do you remove it?

Apart from the hoses it does just slot in, you need to unscrew the inlet ring on the inside of the cabinet first though.
