ParticipantHave we got any ideas on the types of workshops we wana hold?
How about asking ACT to not only do the calibration but a run some sort of PAT testing refresher?
I was speaking to Phil Bedoes the other day he was running a lock ring session, could ask lockring to come, (not that this is my area maybe Ian may have contacts here?)
Some one from the HSE?
Some first Aid basic training?
Someone from the EA?
Electrical safety council?

Hi
I have started the ball rolling with getting the right permission and risk assessment done for the refrigeration demo outside. They are getting it confirmed whether we can do live flame brazing but they say it shouldn’t be a problem but need to run it past their safety officer.

We have asked the questions on the reg form re seminars ,Refrigeration is a deffo in my opinion nice one Bryan 🙂 ,I wonder if a session on electrical safety testing would be an idea as it’s one that ticks the boxes with anyone that’s looking for service provision ,I think start the day with a welcome ,max three seminars over the day plus fill in presentations etc .

I really don’t think that practical demonstrations is a good idea at all.

I agree with Ken, whilst it is classed as a meeting for manufacturers, part suppliers and engineers we shouldn’t be playing around offering engineer training. This in my opinion is the time for networking, finding/offering work and negotiating good deals with suppliers, test equipment people and the like.

I can see both sides if I’m honest ,so why not do a taster session ,with a video of brazing and lockring ,and then do a much more intensive course at Bryans at a later date .For the other session let’s ask ACT to do a demonstration for electrical safety testing .
After all they are both hot topics at the mo .October 10, 2011 at 5:23 pm #360902bazza500

Although I think offering practical demonstrations/training is a good idea, I don’t see how it can work at a big meeting like this without causing mayhem. You will end up with people all over the place.
If we want more manufacturers/WP to attend then i think you have to keep people in the big hall beside their stands.
Maybe we could guage interest in the training at the meeting then organise something for the engineers meeting.

Why not do the meeting as usual throughout the morning then during lunch turn the presentation room into two sections then after lunch when the suits normally start to drift do the two sessions at the same time for delegates that are interested ,the trades will still be at there stands for those that are interested and it will fill that yawn gap after lunch that we never know what to do with

I get all sides here, but we do need something for the afternoon session?
As you say people do get bored and drift off.
We either need to fill the room with many more suppliers or need to try something different.
We dont know until we try it.So why not put a poll up and see what interest we get?
Say 3 options,
eg PAT course of some sorts, refrigeration , and other suggestion you would like us to bring to the show in the future?
After all this is for the guys so leave it to them to see what they would like see there? We need to get some feed back as we need to reserve someone? only 4 months 😆

I got the impression that any ‘Practical’ stuff was going to be done on the Saturday morning? Obviously the Friday needs to remain a sole ‘Meet’ which is why I initially said that training would be a no go. As per someone else, when there are presentations going on etc, you need people on seats, not scattered about doing different things.
But, then it was pointed out about training / practical sessions being held on the Saturday morning for those that want to stay back for a few hours. If that is the case, I don’t see the problem?

Hadn’t thought about Sat ,just to clarify something ,one thing that came back from last year was that a lot of people wanted more time to see the stands ,and were bored of presentations after a while, this would be a good way to mix things up a bit .

Hi
I have asked concerning saturday morning but its a no unless the rooms booked. Which is what I expected.
How about during the lunch break we have 1/2 hr of how to braze and basics of R600a.
I have no problem with doing a days training at my place for engineers on the basics of refrigeration or a few days for the novice. This all depends on the engineers and how much they want to be trained. Now that IS a problem.
Manufacturer courses are made available to the contract engineers but you normally see the same old faces.Bryan

I’d stay away from any practical demo’s at all Bryan.

Yeah I’d avoid any practical on the meeting day, fair enough if it was a Sat AM session, but for the Friday, IMO we need to keep bums on seats and feet at stands without confusion of what’s going on where if you get me?
If Bryan wants to do some R600 Theory etc, it could be offered at the end of the meeting for those that want to hang about for an hour?
