ParticipantCan anyone cobble together some kind of A5 flyer to go on the chairs at the meeting ,something along the lines of one side talking about the meeting and thanking people for coming and the other side talking about the WTA aims and objectives etc .
Also how do people feel about the WTA paying for the buffet ?Lawrence

Hi Lawrence
I had a discussion with Ian concerning the catering and he feels the same way as I do.We dont know how many there is coming engineers or manufacturers.i have been badgering a couple of manufacturers to cough up towards the coffee’s and have only been able to get a maybe from one.
My sudgestion is to have a set menu that should cater for the majority of engineers at a cost of approx £8 to be paid by themselves if they want it from that menu or the standard menu.

I’m about to navigate the middle ground here. My feeling is abit jaundiced to be honest having spent quite alot of time trying to generate any enthusiasm for this next meeting from both engineers and manufacturers. Its the apathy thing – but perhaps we should look at it this way. If you are attending a training day with one of the manufacturers you would not expect to pay for lunch. Bryan has a point though, a limited menue also allows us to control the purse strings.
At the moment we have confirmation that 6 manufacturers are coming totalling 10 bodies and around 25 engineers including wives.

Hi guys
Ian had n idea about buying those keyrings with a pound coin token attached with the WTA logo stamped on them to use as giveaways at the meeting.
Ian can you post the prices please ,also I think the WTA should pay for the buffet ,after all this everyone has been invited under the WTA banner .
Thoughts, opinions please…Lawrence

I think that we may have missed the boat on this one as they have a 6-8 week lead time unless you pay extra. From memory they are £1.23 in batches up to 250 and it drops to 79p from 250+. There is a charge of about £35 to set up the artwork and since we are outside the lead time we would incure an extra 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for a rush order and they cannot guarantee we would receive the goods. 🙁

I will hold my hands up on two fronts for being “lazy” on this…
1. I’ve been leaving this alone a bit to see how you got on and, more importantly, so you all perhaps understand how much grief, hassle, pain in the ass the meetings are and work really goes into these things.
2. I have been really busy with other things as the industry enters a meltdown that is comparable to Three Mile Island.
On point No.1, mission accomplished. 😆
It’s not as easy as you’d think is it?
So, do you want me to devote some time to it?
If you do and you want flyers get me the bullet points that you want to get across please. I’ll format it and have it in “printer” friendly AI or PDF in a few days. It will be printed on time to be shipped wherever or brought down by me if I can fit them in the car with a f00king big radio… dont’ ask.
As Lawrence and Ian know I’ve started on a presentation, which I said I really didn’t want to do again as they just eat time to prepare, but I’ve kinda been spurred on a bit by being p1ssed off with things. That always gets me to put fingers to laptop in anger.
There’s also a demonstration of figures, as in, numbers on a spreadsheet.
I also spoke to a chap today that will do a demo on some specialist tools designed specifically for appliance engineers. Namely, a TD belt tool, the bearing removal kit and a lump of metal to get the belts on those PITA machines that don’t have a removable back panel.
Now the question is, do you want anymore to fill it up?
I appreciate what you’re trying to do in respect to the TA and to promote that, totally get it. But, what I’d say to you is that just like UKW was just a couple of years ago, people will look at it and think, “what the **** is this?”
People don’t read the front page, or much of anything else, unless you lead them by the hand, sit them down and force their eyes open with surgical implements unless it’s something that directly affects/interests them.
It takes time and it takes certain things to fall into place in order to produce an effect. From us, it requires a little patience.
And now folks, I’ll go off on one…
So many times I’ve tried to walk before crawling and, so many times I’ve pulled it back from the brink, just. By the skin of my teeth. And, this is with a plan in my head and the knowledge as well as my maverick way of doing things or getting them done.
Yes, I do admit to being a bit of a loose cannon at times, I will refrain from pointing out other failings for now. 😉
What you’re trying to do is to establish an institution (which many of us belong in ;)) or a brand that represents certain values. That is not an endeavour that is achieved quickly.
You require time and a bit of an objective. Don’t come up with a plan, I’m sick telling people that it is my opinion that a plan is just a list of things to go wrong. Every time you will get your plan wrecked by events beyond your control, so don’t get too set on one course.
What you want to do is set objectives and timeframes. For example, we want to have 150 active members by XX date in 20XX.
With that clarity you know what you’re trying to do and for when.
Don’t deviate.
Take opportunities as they come, sure, but don’t deviate from the objectives you’ve set yourself. If you fail, tough sh1t, beat yourself up over it and think of another way but FFS, don’t wallow in self pity and the “it can’t be done” pits.
DASA have done that.
DASA have also had so much in-fighting and bitching it’s unreal.
DASA failed.
Don’t be DASA.
Don’t try to beat them at the game they resolutely failed in. The rules there suck and are stacked against us, so don’t run that race or play that game.
Another one of my little mantras, don’t fight a battle you know you can’t win. But there’s a caveat to that, guerilla warfare isn’t pretty and it takes one hell of a lot longer, but it often gets a result. 😉

well ,I think that Ian & Bryan deserve a pat on the back for there organising of the day,and Ken for the presentaion on Bob,Anne&Jack.
One positive that has already come from it is that Brian Cresswell from masterpart wants to speak to me about giving WTA members an extra discount when they order parts 😀 .
What I propose is that masterpart mail out to all the WTA members with some sort of flyer explaining how it will work. -
