Bryan told us tonight that more rooms had been allocated to the conference attendees but, only a few more for now.
Here’s the problem…
If we “allocate” rooms to people attending then the TA gets charged for them unless we cancel them on time should they not be used and/or paid for.
Given that the TA have been stung for a number of rooms in the past due to that the guys aren’t falling over themselves to waste TA funds on unused or unpaid for rooms. Quite rightly so IMO.
If you have any trouble booking let Bryan know and he’ll get the Hilton to sort it and, if that fails, let Lawrence or myself know and we’ll rag Bryan to rag the Hilton to sort it.
That said, I will again say that, if you want to go and haven’t booked, do it now. Like, right now. Don’t leave it as you might end up being disappointed.
So far there are well over 100 people attending and, that’s as rough as rough can be from all walks of the industry with some golden opportunities for you as a repairer (or anyone that can read this really). I can’t be any more blunt about it and, you never know, it could be an opportunity that may never be repeated.
Current info is here:
http://whitegoodstradeassociation.org/i … rence-2012
There are links there to register which takes all of two minutes and involves entering the most basic of details.
What I will say is this…
I’ve been in this industry for over two decades. My experience spans beyond that in terms of time.
In all that time, from the guests that have registered thus far, I’ve never seen a collection of guests of the calibre or scope attending this conference at any other event. Bar none.
The TA, quite rightly, have only published the people showing products. Not a list of who is due to attend or talk.
It will be a very busy and interesting day. That I can promise.

I am quite looking forward to this event.
It is encouraging to see a large number of anticipated attendees, and even better regards the interest shown by companies and work providers.
In these days of diminishing markets, servicing handling companies on the increase and others who have tried to devalue this business, it may be good to see input and interest from fresh operators that are emerging, or already out there but whom we as repairers do not normally associate with. Part of the reason I suppose they are going to be there on site, is because they are interested in us, and I would like to think they would like to see what we have on offer. I’ve always found the DASA meetings rewarding in a similar manner.
We have the skills and expertise, and in the light of Comet redundancies there will be more of us out there chasing the same job. Therefore I hope this meeting will give us a great opportunity to meet up with some old names from the past, and new ones who are growing.
Word of mouth does well when there is a certain job to be done, but sometimes a chat over coffee makes all the difference.

Quite so Alex and I am led to believe that there could be companies attending that will be actively looking to recruit agents for service work. Maybe not on the spot, things don’t happen to pan out that way, but as you often like to remind me on occasion, if you’re not in it, you can’t win it.
But, often as not, it goes along the lines of bumping into someone, finding out what they do and where and then digging out the business card as soon as the need arises.
I’m just saying once again, it can be worth the trouble attending.

Yeah well, let’s just say a few people have picked up some work at these things and, more power to them. I personally think that’s great.
But, on with the show…
Amica Service Awards
You might have seen something, might not have on this.
Basically there are some awards being handed out (with pretty trophies) for the best repairers and repair companies based on consumer feedback and whatnot for Amica Service at the meeting.
Now, whilst I have normally a deep seated mistrust of such things, I have been convinced by John, Simon, Anne and others that this is actually representative of the true picture of things. And, on seeing the figures, for a change, I can’t actually argue the logic.
What’s more interesting are the general figures to me.
Which, I’ve managed (coerced/beat/conned) to get John to publish at the meeting as they do make for interesting reading.
I don’t want to ruin it but it does put a few things into perspective and the winners I can tell you, so far as I am aware, have never won another award in their puff. Which is good.
Annoyingly however (for me) there are a load of repairers out there that I know are absolutely outstanding, brilliant guys with way more technical ability than I or many of us could ever hope to have, that sadly don’t get recognised.
If it were up to me, a few people on here would get a big gold star every week and promoted to “top of the class” week in, week out.
It wasn’t up to me. 🙁
They used customer feedback to do it all, nobody had a say bar the call centre for their award.
Some deserving recipients of recognition nonetheless and at least one or ten that won or, came very, very close would have been given the gold star. Funny that the numbers bore out what I was banging on about, hence the inability to argue about it.
In advance, well done to those that won. It wasn’t through luck, but hard work and the ability to do the job properly that got you a nice trophy to prove it. All the awards are well deserved.
Oh and no, I didn’t win one either. I’m not bothered about it really as some people went above and beyond to earn this, which I cannot lay claim to be competing with.

Hi
I’ve booked the 2 nights with the Hilton, but when I try to register it throws up a message ” how much time will you need for you seminar”. And that happens whatever option box I tick!
Maybe it’s because I’m using a I Pad?

For those attending, there will be a web GURU there to talk to people about websites & SEO. He’s got 15 Years experience of developing websites, one of which includes HSBC.
He’s not presenting, but he’ll be open floor so if anyone wants to ask anything about maximising web impact, you’ll be shown who he is and you’ll be free to approach him for questions / advice…
If you’ve not yet registered for the WTA Meeting, click here to register.

GUTTED CAN’T COME
Van unexpectedly failed MOT today and I’m not risking driving past all those ANPR cameras on the way to Coventry so you’ll have to manage without me 😥 😥 😥 .
