ParticipantFirst call this morning to one of them posh converted barn type properties. Unbeknown to me though it was a semi-detached converted barn and I parked my van blocking the exit of the next door neighbours car. By the time I got out of my van the neighbour shot out and proceeded to enlighten me of the error of my ways for such an affront toward his “right of way”.
Once I realised my error I jumped back into my van and moved it out of his way and into my customers car parking space. To which you would think would be the end of the matter?…..Errr…No! My customer at this point intervened and verbally lashed into his neighbour big time over what appears is an on-going neighbourly dispute over visitors to each property and their parking habits.
So, whilst these 2 neighbours (both were men by the way) were exchanging insults I spotted the tumble dryer in his opened garage and proceeded to go in and fix it. Meanwhile they were creating such a fuss and getting quite aggravated to a point where I felt I should mediate in some small way to stop this from getting too physical. My customer told me to “stay out of this!” and I went back to the tumble dryer repair.
Moments later I heard a loud cracking noise and it turns out that the neighbour was ripping the trellis off my customers fence as he objected to it being put there earlier in the year. Next thing my customer phones 999 whilst his neighbour is ripping up his fence…………..
………..move forward 20 minutes and the old Bill arrive and arrest the neighbour. Plod take my name and address and ask if they can come round my house for a full interview which I agreed to (they are coming around 3 this afternoon by the way).
The law takes him away, my customer is ecstatic, I fix the dryer, he pays me and insists that if the Police cause me any inconvenience over the interview or future potential court appearances that he will pay my expenses.
This all came about because I parked my van for around 30 seconds on the neighbours space.
That’s what I love about this job as every day something is different, some new thrill is just around the corner….roll on tomorrow!
P.S Will keep you posted on the Police interview

I’ve just finished giving a statement to a young Police officer. He wasn’t able to comment on the case but suspected the neighbour would have been charged with ‘causing an affray’ or possibly ‘breach of the peace’ and likely as not let off with a caution. 😕

Had a very similar experience some time ago.. some people have very sad lives, got to feel sorry for some of them really 🙁
Martin’s tale makes me feel soo grateful to have good neighbours.. once these petty disputes start they tend to turn into WW3 :rolls:
Nobody wants to lose face by backing down and eventually all hell breaks loose.. not good. 🙁November 4, 2010 at 1:26 am #334910leavemetogetonwithit

Had a good chuckle over that, too.
On Monday I went to a house in a tiny hamlet a couple of miles from town. Propped my bike against the side wall of my customer’s house and walked to the door. Couldn’t make myself heard due to teen’s loud music upstairs but she’d left door open obviously for me so I walked in and started work on the dishwasher.
Noticed the neighbour walked by the window and she stopped and glared at my bike for a half minute or so. She then moved it to the front of the house onto the road so that it was off her hard standing where there was room to park a bus :rolls: . You can only pity these people.
