ParticipantHi – hope someone can help.
I have the above model and I’m getting error code (8 flashes) which apparently means there is a filling problem – no water is getting to the device. I pulled out the machine and checked that the were no kinks which leads me to the thought that the water inlet valve /solenoid has died.
So took the machine out and tried to get the to valve to test it /and or replace but when I took the side panel off the machine I came accross something that looks a bit dodgy?! I don’t have the schematic so don’t know which part this is, but it is a plastic chamber attached to the salt reservoir but towards the back of the machine. It is the size of a cup but is completely sealed and full to the top of brown looking sludge – I wonder if this is the problem?
If I can work out how to take a picture and post I will do so and post shortly.
Any ideas in the meantime?
Thanks so much in advance.

That’s the ‘ion exchanger’ full of silicone resin crystals. A vital part of the water softening cycle. Leave well alone, all looks good in the photo. 😀

Thanks very much for your comment – really helpful.
So, is it likely to be the the inlet valve? I have ordered a new one anyway, but just a thought – there appears to be water in the fill chamber – if you look at the photo you can see the water line. Would this not suggest there is a flowmeter problem? The water appears to have got that far but can’t seem to get into the actual machine……. Surely if the inlet valve was blocked there would be no water in there at all?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Could well be the inlet valve needs replacing.

I have same problem but have fitted a new solenoid valve to the inlet but still have the 8 flash error code! I have since found a trouble shooting sheet that came with unit but that says 8 flashes is a drain problem! Can any one help please. And did the person who started this thread ever solve the problem?
