I’ve just bought a replacement double grill element for my oven and before I replace it I just wanted to check on something. I’ve taken a picture of the wiring for my own reference and whilst doing that I noticed there is an earth cable coming from an earth point on the bolt that holds the element in. This 30cm or so cable is attached to the oven body at the point stated above but it just ends with a spade connector at the other end and isn’t connected to anything.

What I’m trying to find out is if that loose end should be connected to the grill element? The grill element I am replacing has a small bar going across the first two element ends but only one wire connected. Should the earth be connected to the prong with no wire on………or………is that spare earth cable left from a universal wiring loom for if this oven was fitted with a single grill element and not a double like mine?

I’ve labelled the image now to make it a bit clearer what I mean.

Any help would be appreciated. I presume it’s just a redundant earth as the grill has worked perfectly up until the element burned out – but just wanted to make sure.
